When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
    joyfully, playfully watching me.
Then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
    oh logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
    clinical, oh, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the world's asleep,
    the questions run too deep
    for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
    I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.
Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
    liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, oh, respectable, oh, presentable, a vegetable!
At night, when all the world's asleep,
    the questions run so deep
    for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
    I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am!

Isn't 63 A Bit Late In Life To Be Having A Mid Life Crisis....

Not That There's Anything Wrong With That...[IMG].

Not really - sometimes I can't help but remember simpler times. Perhaps they weren't so simple them but in retrospect it seems to me they were.

At 63 I have seen a so much and become hardened to it - just as the pile of papers in your home you never notice any more - they have been there so long you don't see them. Sometimes my vision clears and I see the trash.

Lyrically still timely. Age old question with no answers.

Supertramp or rather Richard Davies and Roger Hodgson were a writing team that was rather hard to beat. Many of the lyrics are very much life lessons, some learned and some still not solved.

    Rather like life itself. :)

I would probably lament most the simple times and the calm that went with those.

This song was one that was used in the ashram that I was involved with for a time and when troubled it is the one I go back to for a listen and grounding.
