Ok so its summer and my dreads arent very mature at all. I know chlorine doesnt hurt them but im in the pool almost everyday in the summer so eventually there gonna get loose. Any ideas on how to cover them up? Swim caps dont seem to fit anymore :/

you could try a plastic bag lol, thats what i do when i wanna shower before i go to work or bed so my hair isnt tied up or damp forever, grocery bags work. theyre to the point where they almost dont fit so i might have to move to trashbags haha. one day ill invent a dread shower cap and ill give ya 50% off just because this idea came to me now :)

i'm curious about this too... i know swimming in the ocean is supposed to be awesome for dreads but i'm not sure about pools.

i DID read in a magazine that you don't need to shampoo to get chlorine off your hair, you can just rinse off after you get out of the pool. so maybe just a good rinse after?

I'd be more concerned about them being soggy for days on end = mould

I think i'll spray my hair with an herbal mold remover after i swim next (the formula is in the sticky, so i think i'll try it.) better safe then sorry!

Itd be better if you soaked your hair in herbal mould remover as mould grows deep inside. To be honest as long as your hair is bone dry between each swim it shouldnt matter. Yes just rinsing gets rid of chlorine.

I guess it is all different. My boyfriend has had dreads for about two years and goes in the pool occasionally and the ocean frequently and he does nothing special with them. Just air dries.

........okay? You got your hair wet, and it's wet.... surprise?

this is just an all around silly fear.

Moving does not hurt locks. Not moving simply holds them back. If a knot falls out, it's a knot that needed to fall out before progress could continue, because a properly locked knot won't fall out ever, and a sub-standard knot won't progress to a proper knot, because if it falls out, it obviously wasen't the right type....

Also, mold isn't the end of the world, I had it a few times when my hair was wet for a few days on end. Washed with a few lathers' of bronners, dried the fuck out of it, waited 2 days, repeated, no further problems. You just need to wash the fuck out of it and dry it all the way, pronto, if you notice it starting.

I will add, he does squeeze the excess water out sometimes after coming out of the water. Maybe take a towel and squeeze the dread and the scalp. He has done this too. Remember to squeeze, not rub. Maybe a microfiber towel will also help. Good luck!

Air drying is great if you're outside. Indoors it takes way too long, I sometimes use the blow dryer, mainly squeeze em with a towel though
