it isn't as complicated a game. It isn't as worth learning.

Oh right, because your comments are probably just way to good to share with the world. Your superior intellect would probably leave me confused any way.

Chess, chutes and ladders, chinese checkers...doesn't matter as long as your actually teaching and interacting with you kids in a postive way. But uh, I am somewhat biased. The world does need more chess players.

I'm not all that fond of chess.
I think it's worth a try to teach the child, and if it's not interested, well, leave it...

I have a friend that teaches chess to kids, personaly I stick to candy land and mancala, never been much for any board games though, I'd rather have some glue, pipe cleaners and clothes pins to play with.

i was asking about chess because of the military themes it plays out. i learned when i was rather young and i was curious about the opinions (military might v. military might)

There are benefits to learning Chess. Patience comes immediately to mind.
Many young people have no patience today. They want it, and they want it NOW!!!

Yeah, that's exactly why I never liked it. ;)

On the military aspect... Phew. Well, I'd rather have my child learn chess than have it play Counterstrike or toy tank.
Aren't all board games about fighting and winning (or losing) in a way?
