So I got a tam today for ten dollars. I was wondering if it'd be weird to not bunch of my dreads when I'm wearing it out because I like them down, I think I'd only bunch them up in the tam at night. Would that totally defeat the purpose of the tam? Because I like the way it looks and would like to wear it just as a hat I guess.
That depends on how you look at a tam. I don't think it defeats the purpose at all. If you would expect someone to be wearing the tam with their dreads tucked inside for the way it looks, then it's serving the same purpose.

why did you buy the tam? tams are meant to hold the hair inside. you should not be wearing it all day and all night. that will leave you with some stank ass head. if you just bought it to hide your locks, then that sucks. perhaps a bandana to hide them during the day.
I mainly wear a tam to keep my dreads out of the way of work. I've lived on acreage for sometime now and the outside chores stack up. It's the easiest way for me to keep them out of the way and clean.
