I was wondering how many other people get opium in the US? I get some once or twice a year from Vancouver,B.C. and it's supposedly Afghani opium, and also several people I know grow opium poppies here in the US and I will get to smoke a little bit of theirs, although they normally only have a small amount since it takes a lot of opium poppy bulbs to produce a good amount of opium, once it is dried properly. I am not talking about the fake opium blends they sell like Dragon's Blood incense, or so on. I have been to Africa,Europe,South America, and Asia and have smoked opium in egypt, Thailand, Burma, and Cambodia,so I know whats real and whats fake stuff.

My friend's old man, who's a longtime biker, would make the stuff outta the bulbs. If I recall it was never dried well though and was real hard to smoke. But I've never heard of any actual imported opium around here.

I have only seen the imported stuff a number of times since 1995, when I started doing opiates, and I have done plenty of the homemade opium from people growing opium poppys themselves. It takes patientience and time to let the opium dry out properly and so on, and most people don't have the patience to wait for the opium they harvest to dry it out well and let it sit and "cure" properly. I know some people who practicly smoke it the next day after they score the poppy bulb and let it dry for a day, then try to smoke it, this is not long enough to let it dry out evenly. Best to let it sun dry a day , put it insiside a warm but not hot place, that is not humid and let it dry more. Some people I have seen also put a bit of opium in an oven on very low heat and let it warm and dry out that way , but I think that sun drying and then even using a heat lamp and just letting it dry in a warm, dry, low humidity place for a while, weeks or longer makes for good opium you harvest yourself. Hard to do that though , becasue I know I wanna smoke some ASAP, but it's a waste really to smoke it too soon.

Commonly done among a group of people i know , we all grow some opium poppys and harvest the opium by cutting or scoring the bulb and letting it seep out overnight and harden up somewhat, then dry it in the sun if possible, or we use a heat lamp and then dry it out over a few weeks in a closet thats warm and dry..makes a big diffrence when you can wait and dry it through all the way, and let it sit and lose water weight over time..

Never seen the smokeable kind, but I used to make opium tea from dried pods. Though I've heard that the DEA has been cracking down on people selling pods for "floral arrangements".

Yeah I heard that myself. It is still legal to buy opium seeds and even to grow them in most places, for "ornamental purposes" , and you are not doing anything illegal until you scrape the poppy bulbs for the opium resin to seep out and collect for smoking it, ot if you harvest the pods for tea or something, but luckily IMO the average cop cannot tell the difference between the many non opium containg poppys and the variuos types of opium poppys, but still It is best to score or cut the pods in private and the next day to collect the dried opium gum/latex on the down low..
