I remember getting tarred soles some years ago at a seaside resort.
As i was spending a lot of time on the beach, the sand wore it off within a few days.

OH YES! Yes yes yes. One of the best experiences of my LIFE (maybe sounds overstated but hey) was walking home after a campfire in the fields, it was about 3am and they were completely resurfacing a large road. My first excitement was to learn that the distinctive beeping that had kept waking me up in the night for the past few weeks were from a vehicle at these roadworks (being done at night for whatever reason), and I was amazed at how far the sound had travelled.. THEN I started walking about on the new road, and it was just fucking awesome. I think it seemed extra special because of it being night time, and I was probably high.

It's nice to know other people have shared this love.

Nah, not something for me. I don't like urban surfaces. And tar is toxic shit

I think it sorta defeats the purpose of being barefoot.

Stepping in mud, or clay, nice garden soil, peat moss... all amazing things to do barefoot...

Tar? Definitely doesn't sound like an enjoyable thing to me.

Totally agreed. And really be careful with those tar-things and urban dirt on your feet, they're cancirogens

  6. Hey, not everybody enjoys everything. Never did...never will. Just sayin' that SOME barefooters enjoy SOME sensations...and sticky tar is ONE of them. Now doing a nice fresh PIZZA barefoot. EVERYBODY loves that, right?

after the tar, that is sure to ruin the pizza

  8. I remember as a child it used to get so hot in the summer sometimes that the tar would melt. Not a lot but enough to get us covered in it. Not just feet, clothes, skin everything. My mother used to rub us with butter to help remove it. Then the dreaded scrubbing brush ;)

I get that it isn't your thing.. but defeats the purpose? I wasn't aware that there was some single purpose to being barefoot. My purpose is all about sensation, and the new road was definitely like no other I have felt.

You just stated the purpose... "all about sensation"

I think if you continue to walk in things like tar, and you might as well start wearing shoes again as you will soon kill the nerves in your feet, not to mention the other damage to your body as it absorbs the toxins through your skin.

How will it kill the nerves? It wasn't boiling hot.. It was just pleasantly warm and squidgy. And it's not like i'm making a regular habit of it! I think i'll survive the toxins this once. So still, it didn't defeat any purpose of mine.

Those workers, don't handle asphalt and road tar with bare skin.

Will it kill you doing it once or twice... no... of course not, but you can also survive getting shot in the head.... doesn't mean its a good idea... lol

recently the sidewalks in my neighborhood was repaved...i waited untill night, and walked all around on it,,felt nice and warm.i still have trouble on the rough pavement tho

  15. The fact that some people DO enjoy the experience and have not suffered the pangs of destruction is TOTALLY the point. Whether others think it is a bad idea or environmentally unsound is WHOLLY irrelevant. "Stick" to your loves, barefooters!

And with the aid of a bungee, or a parachute, should definitely be done!

Many people do things (smoke/eat unhealthy foods) that over time in great quantity would cause problems, but they are happy with that risk for the pleasure of what they do. Comparing these activities to jumping off a bridge, and being immediately crippled or killed seems a little absurd :)

I can agree with that.... about as absurd as walking in tar... lol

  19. Chronic Tom is a chronic pain in the ass.
    Of course, that's MY OPINION.
    Nothing wrong with that, right?
    This is Amerika, right?
