Hi everyone, new here, Im Leavinbabylon and Im 18.

I started the neglect method of dreadlocks about 4 months ago and have been washing my hair (every night) with baking soda for the past month, which is what i plan on continueing to do, and give it a wool hat rub about once a week. I have Italian-type, curly, greasy if kept un washed hair, and my question is is it normal for pretty small dreadlocks (about 5 or 6) to begin to grow in the front before anything els starts to lock up? and will these dreads get bigger? because my goal was thick majestic locks.

    thanks for the help/advice

No... You get big dreads first then the little dreads form after. You're clearly doing something wrong, buddy.

when you go with the neglect method the hair usually dreads at different rates. For some people the back dreads first, for others is the front or the sides, at the end it will all dread.
The only thing you should worry about is keeping you hair clean, forget about the rest. You WIL have dreads, just be patient :D

k, i know this sounds crazy but perhaps baking soda isn't the way to go for your hair type? you might want to experiment with different homemade shampoos until you find something that works...

They'll grow differently. Maybe a little smaller at first. If you want thick ones then let the smaller ones, when they form, to grow together. The best thing with neglect, though, is that they all grow at different rates.

Lay off the baking soda a bit. The thing with bs is that you don't need to wash your hair every day. Doing so can cause issues. Mostly it'll over dry your hair and can cause damage.

Most people who wash with baking soda (dreaded or not) do so every few days. Still take a shower the other days, just don't wash your hair. It'll be a bit greasy at first but once your scalp gets used to not being stripped of oil (like regular shampooing does) it'll calm down.

Look up "no poo" on the net. There are a lot of people who wash with baking soda and other natural non-shampoo stuff.

    *hugs*

if you were aiming for "thickand majestic" the neglect method is probably a bad idea since you are supposed to aim for whatever nature gives you.

no worries dude! just mellow and enjoy the ride. if you're neglecting it's going to do what it pleases no matter how much you worry, so just try and dig it. it is hard, but worth it. :)
