So, my husband and I went to Ikea on Saturday with the intention of just picking up a tv stand, and we ended up buying like 8 or 9 pieces of furniture! It was so cool! We got some new lighting, a new couch, a coffee table, some blinds... okay, so we went a little nuts, but we actually have NEW furniture for our house! (Most of what we have is hand-me-downs from our parents when we moved out a year and a half ago.) So, next weekend we're having a garage sale to get rid of our old stuff... We spent Sunday putting all our furniture together.... ah, the house is finally starting to look like our own, as opposed to some ecclectic hand-me-down house....
For some reason Ikea does not seem to have many people that wish to boycott it.. http://www.rediff.com/money/2004/apr/06bspec.htm Does anyone know why..seems prime suspect for a good boycott campaign by somebody or other. I watched a programe about 'Ikea' last night very strange organisation , more of a cult ... .. Is IKEA, created by the mysterious Ingvar Kamprad, a furniture shop or a cultural phenomenon? Kamprad is the man who gave us flat pack 60 years ago, created a worldwide home furnishing chain, and in the process became the world's wealthiest man. Yet his employee's devotion to him and his ideas lives on, even though he no longer runs the company. The 78-year-old Swede still lives by the same mottos that inspired his design empire: modesty, functionality and affordability. IKEA's furniture is neatly designed, highly functional and most of all, affordable. Needless to say, nobody at IKEA travels business class. Kamprad watches over this global phenomenon like a cross between Chairman Mao, Walt Disney and Howard Hughes. This film looks at his life and influence. [With audio description] Link
That is awesome for you and your husband. I remember that feeling. We had a lot of things given to us too when we first got married. Nothing matched. It kinda drove me crazy. When we bought our house we kept the closing cost money (the seller paid closing costs) and bought a shitload of furniture and rugs. I wish you well on our yard sale.
wow...way to go to show control there... and now it will take 10 years to pay off your credit card debit
I am planning a peaceful protest outside my nearest Ikea .. do you want to do the same outside your local Ikea who are you insulting now Bug man ???
a famous chain of furniture stores shrrom, I'm sure they avoid Indiana like everyone should. Why protest Ikea, there are plenty of wal-marts around.
'Ikea people' give customers big hugs... http://www.ikea.com/ ikea is taking well actualy has taken over the world..why are not more people pissed off about this ???
If you wanted to buy a bunch of Swedish crap, you should have just bought an ABBA's greatest hits CD. It would have been cheaper and with the money you saved you could also have bought all the goddamned meatballs you wanted.
hahah thanks for clearing that up for me, I dont know what I would have done.. I know a Kia is a car dolt, i never heard of Ikea, sorry..
See Ikeas 'stuff' is actualy good quality ..affordable and the merchandise can easily be put into a normal sized car. The point is ...... surely precious forests are being bulldozed... Ingvar Kamprad must be funneling some of his wealth to some terrorist organisation and surely he is part of some secret society ???
