Its only been around three to four weeks. Ive been going five months now and my hair is only NOW starting to section itself. Theyll catch up eventually. Just be patient c:
Eh, I was forced to backbrush a couple days ago. My band director threatened to kick me out my section if I didn't get my 'locks under control. I figured if I sped along the process that he'd get off my back. he did. I'm sure I'll go through one of those "i miss my old hair" phases, and brush it out, and then regret it and start all over. If I do, I'll go full neglect. Here's a pic of my backbrushed dreads. And for all you dread elitists: save the criticism. I know I should go neglect, but I didn't really have the opportunity.
you should do whatever you wanna do, it's your hair they are doing great, and I love the color :2thumbsup:
Hah.... Now he's going to kick you out for sure. I'm disappointed, you should have thrown a bitch fit on him. Amicalish said it right, although she was looking at it the other way: It's your hair, do what the fuck you want. If you'd prefer go neglect, FUCK them all, go neglect, smooth talking and a ponytail can usually avoid hair problems.
Fuck band "Leaders" A band cant exist without it's essential components(you being one), if you don't like it then fuck off. You should've just let it naturally lock I thought it looked better in the last pictures personally
I fail to see how this makes sense. I want to remain in band. Yeah it sucks that my band director is so conservative. But I'm apart of HIS band and if he doesntg want me performing shows with a ratsnest on my head for the next 6 months to a year, then I respect his wishes. Otherwise i 'd just get the fuck out of band. Hop off my cock damn.
Awe, i'd flip. I've been having nightmares I start combing my hair. No fucking way I'm letting a brush or comb go near this rats nest. LOL... (i've done that waaaay to many times) Ah well. Happens to the best of us.
How does it not make sense? If you're band director is such a douche over something as simple as your hair then I don't see why you care so much. There are a million and one other musicians out there that would care less what you look like as long as you play music. Maybe it's just me, but I think the whole point of being in a band is to play good music and not give two shits about how you look doing it, as long as you have fun. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not a so-called "elitist" when it comes to dreads. I didn't start mine naturally, I was just remarking that your hair looked better when it was just doing its own thing. Then again it's only pictures, you can only see so much from them.
I agree with you. I love band though, and in order to be in it I have to look nice. Unfortunately my band is from a very religious conservative area (I tried to tell him jesus probably had dreads lol) but he didn't budge. So I'm in a pickle. As far as the pictures go, they were taken shortly after I backbrushed. They've gotten over the initial puffball stage and look a lot better.
This may be true if you're in your own band, but a HS marching/concert band is MUCH different. You're being judged, literally, by how you sound, march, and LOOK. Like op said, it is the band directors band. You can conform, or gtfo.
dude, do what you need to do. i put my dreads in when i figured i wasn't going to get the job i currently have (it had been like a month since the initial interview, which was a little off to begin with) but i got it, showed up on my first day with a head of dreads, and my boss was fine with it, just asked that i keep them cleaned up if i could and tied back until they matured. if that means i'll be serving in a super busy pub making crazy tips, then i'm down. it all comes down to priorities. you can make your point that you're your own person, but sometimes you have to compromise. i respect that much more than being close-minded enough to throw opportunities away because of a hairstyle.
That's true, I may have misunderstood this then haha I was under the impression that it was just a regular band not a marching band or anything like that
