Over the past few years i have had what is known as cellulitus in my right leg which is a disease that causes my right leg to swell and i can actually watch it move up my leg. When the first red blotch appears i will draw a line around it with a marker or pen, and from there u can watch it spread....usually a week of antibiotics will do the trick. The last bout i had moved so fast up my leg i ended up in the hospital with a 105.7 fever, actually in and out of being coherency. THey say the usual cause of it is athletes foot and strep throat, lol crazy huh??? well last week my leg swelled up but didnt spread up my leg like the last time. The last time i had it it traveled to my knee, then to my lymph nodes in my groin and so on...... I am a chronic pain patient for an accident i had at home so i let my dr know what was up, he referred me to have "another Doppler" done on my leg for a blood clot, NO BLOOD CLOT ANGAIN......but she did say that i was diagnosed with "VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY" where my vein is to large and doesnt allow blood to be pumped in to the deeper portions of my leg, it actually will flow backwards.....they say its in both legs, but the right more than the left......she said that i may be too far past the support stockings that is the first coarse of treatment and i most likely need surgery, due to the fact that my leg is already changing color..... has anyone had this before???? has anyone had the surgery???? any input would be great!!! Thanks for reading!!!!!
Yep....I had the same thing. Venous Insufficiency in both my legs. I don't know if the surgery they are talking about is the same thing I had done, but what I had done was called VNUS CLOSURE. It's where they snake a a catheter up your leg fron the ankle to your groin, then they heat the the tip of the catheter up and pull it slowly back down to your ankle. It basically burns the vein shut. It's quite a bit unpleasant, that damn thing gets hot as hell and you can feel it burning. They did it in the office and I only got valium and demerol so I was awake for the whole thing. The other procedure they may be talking about is stripping the veins out of your leg. If they are as bad as you say, that's probably what they intend to do. Good luck either way.
thank you for ur reply, i have been doing some reading, and from the looks of my leg being discolored i think i am past the control stockings they say is a treatment for it in the early stages, so i have a consult with a vein specialist on the 15th of June, and we shall see what she says. When i had the doppler done, my right leg is the main issue but my left leg is suffering from the same, just not as bad. Again thanks for your post as i was beginning to wonder if anyone else experienced this, and i will be sure to keep the thread active with some results when they become know!!!!!
That's funny...my right leg was worse than my left leg too. In fact, they didn't even check my left leg until I got a second opinion, and that's when they said if it's in one leg, its more than likely in both, and they were right. Anyway, after having the VNUS Closure done, my left leg is all good, but unfortunately I still have to wear the compression stocking on my right leg, because if I don't, my leg will swell like a muther. Anyway, I'd be curious to know what they tell you, because your leg issues sound very similar to mine.
