Everytime I mention this movie I'm the only one really impressed about it. Everyone KINDA knows this movie, they don't remember it so much but they kinda know which one is it. Am I the only one that was completely changed and blown away by the message of the movie? I'm pretty sure it's the only movie that talks about the true power of WILL, and what we can achieve if we really put our minds into something. We can do anything we want, ANYTHING. I know that there are tons of movies that deal with the power of will BUT not so deeply as this one imo. It also talks about discrimination. The protagonist basically cheated his way into his goal, BUT he was as good as any other, which he proved over and over and over again. Genetics and "god given" attributes don't matter, only PURE RAW WILL. I LOVE that message, I swear every time I watch it I get all emotional haha, such a good movie. It really changed my life, nobody that I've met feels that way about Gattaca, having said that: Anyone here does?
I love that movie as well. It is part of my DVD collection. Yes, I like the message that genetic engineering is not the ultimate improvement of humans but that determination can accomplish more than a superiorly gifted person. I also like the fact that it is a good sci-fi story - not dependent on the usual special effects expected these days. I mean, wearing suits to board a rocket for a lifetime trip? We're into the story and not the gadgets. In a way that is the same message - that a simple natural movie with a good story can accomplish more than the CGI enhanced movie with just explosions and great creatures and things.
