I rarely ever root for the underdog so I can’t really say it was my favorite, besides the original was too ethnic [IMG]

The first two are way too drama-focused and boring.

III's alright, lotsa good fight scenes
IV's fucking awesome, if not for the Cold War propaganda, because it has such an awesome ending fight
Rocky Balboa is pretty realistic and gives boxing some real respect; it's not Raging Bull, but it's not half bad neither.

They're all great, though Rocky V was kind of shitty.

The latest one, Rocky Balboa was a great ending to the series.

The movies are what got me into boxing.

I think the first was a classic--like Jaws 1. But they can't leave well enough alone and continue to milk the public for $ and therefore degrade the classic ones just by being. $$$$$$$$$$

The original Rocky is a legitimately classic film. It's been copied so many times over the years (like 'Halloween' and 'Black Christmas') we tend to forget what the original was like and just how good it was.

Having said that, each of the first four are very good. Rocky II drags a little leading up to the fight, but then again, that portion of the story did need to be told. Rocky III is great and does a nice job of completing the story arc of the first three films (and also has the best villian with Mr T. nailing the part of Clubber Lange). Rocky IV, I liked (especially the music during Rocky's training scenes), and the fight with Drago was delightfully over the top.

Speaking of 'Over The Top', anyone remember that movie? Yeesh!

IMHO The best Sylvester Stallone movie was First Blood (1982) :2thumbsup:

Over the Top was awesome in the shitty way, like Roadhouse, just not as.

The Cannon Group made a lot of cheesy movies like that back in the 80s staring icons like Stallone and Norris, so I suppose I could understand the fascination some people could have for those tearjerker action flicks [IMG]

Roadhouse is in a class by itself. Some people call it a "guilty pleasure," but I don't feel particularly guilty about liking it. Sure, it isn't high art (then again if a film is directed by a guy called Rowdy Harrington, you're probably not getting 'Citizen Kane'), but look at that cast:
Swayze, Sam Elliot, Ben Gazarra, Kevin Tighe (remember him from 'Emergency'?). And we can't overlook the "I used to fuck guys like you in prison" guy. That's a Murderers Row for a cheesy 80s action flick.

But sorry, we were talking about the Rocky films... Am I the only one who thinks the ending to the fight in Rocky II is seriously underrated? Think about it. We've just had two full films of Rocky and Apollo, how are you going to come up with an ending to a fight that does the first two films justice? Well, they did.
