so i have a prescription for ativan (60/month - not that i actually take 2 per day), but i find it hard to stay awake on it. i use it legitimately for my anxiety, not that ativan has much of a recreational value. lately i've been finding that i have a tolerance to the ativan and need to take more of it to get the same effects. do you think its worth asking my doctor for something different, or will tolerance to ativan affect other benzo's as well?
1mg as needed. technically the script says 2/day, but i don't really take them regularly, just when i'm feeling anxious. lately i've been needing them more than usual, so i'll probably take an average of 1.5mg - 2mg/day now.
I honestly don't use them very often, but the last couple of weeks have been really stressful and I've been having more anxiety than usual. Normally a couple puffs on a joint are enough, but when it gets really bad benzos are the only thing that can calm me down enough to function.
Benzos have cross-tolerances. So, if you were hypothetically switched to Xanax or Klonopin, you would not start out "Fresh" where only 0.5mg takes all of your troubles away. You would be tolerant to the equipotent dose of the new drug. I would suggest talking to your doctor about it, but not giving it too much thought. If you say that taking the Ativan takes away your anxiety pretty well, then it is doing its job. Benzos aren't like cocaine or heroin where there are stronger ones that are exponentially more euphoric than the weak ones. I have had Temazepam and I have had Klonopin. Most people would say "Temazepam is wayyy more euphoric." Honestly, the only difference to me was the Klonopin lasts longer. If you want a drug to get high off of, search somewhere else. Benzos are essentially good for just their two medical uses: Getting to sleep and Lowering anxiety. If you feel as though you might need a higher dose of Ativan, let the doctor know. It is a common thing. I went from 0.25mg Klonopin to 4mg Klonopin in two years. That statement says a lot: 1) Doctors WILL up your dose, 2) You build up a hell of a quick tolerance. Luckily, I chipped away my use of them to only using it to sleep and for emergency anxiety. Now, I take 1mg per day. So, just consider these things from an experienced benzo user: 1) They never produce euphoria like many other drugs would, 2) They DO build a tolerance, 3) Doctors know they build a tolerance and likely will increase the dose.
Okay thanks for the advice, very useful! I have an appointment with my doctor early in June, so I'll ask him about it then. Thanks!
i prefer ativan! It was like a 4 hour euphoric buzz than into a dreamy state xanax was like a 1 hr euphoric buzz to a blackout
Ehhh.. Xanax is more euphoric, but you WILL blackout without a tolerance. Ativan is much better if you want to be functional during the day.
That sucks to hear, since ativan makes me so tired when I take it. What about the others, like valium and klonopin? i assume they're the same?
I'm prescribed to both valium and ambien. I feel like they put me to sleep much faster than xanax will. I have a semi high tolerance for them, since I take them regularly. The Ambien gives me a crazy euphoric feeling, but I tend to hallucinate a lot when I take too much. The hallucinations are some of the worst I've ever experienced and I'm experienced in hallucinogenics / psychedelics.
I took 120mg of ambien and wasnt tired at all.. small change in vision. No hallucinations.. That shit sucks impo.. I can take .25mg of Atavan and get relaxed when my tolerance is low.. and it usually is because shit head doc only gives me 6 atavans.. ima bust his windshield on his benz, the fuck!!!
i'm really hoping that my doc gives me a different benzo to try - i'm guessing he will since he's pretty loose with his prescription pad. i consistently get 60 x 1mg ativan/month with 3 refills to use 'when needed'.
i got a couple xanax pills from someone to try out - one 2mg bar and one 3mg triangle (extended release). for anxiety i normally take 1mg ativan and it does the trick - the equivalent dose of xanax is apparently 0.5mg, so i just took a quarter of the 2mg bar. tomorrow i'm going to try taking the 3mg XR in the morning and see how it works. if i find it works better than ativan, do you think i should mention to my doctor that i tried a friends xanax and it worked better? or should i just ask for a switch to something else and hope that he gives it to me?
I can understand why my doc will not give me a lot of them.. but 6. 1mg wtf is that.. OK I eat them all in a week. when I should only take them once or twice.. When he gave me 8. I said I ate them all in the month time. Thats 2 a week. I should have better control over myself. But I am prescribed much Opiate for PAIN. Id rather cut them and up the Benzos .. They work better for my pain anyways..
Actually, valium (diazepam) and klonopin (clonazepam) have a longer duration of action than ativan (lorazepam) or xanax (alprazolam). Valium is not really prescribed very much anymore; it's mostly just used in the hospitals cause it's cheap and klonopin is a little less common than xanax or ativan. Klonopin can be used for anxiety, but it is mainly used for seizure disorders. The way people react to medication varies, but ativan is probably the weakest of those four particular benzo's.
