A couple of days ago my seeds popped, and they grew rapidly in one direction, up.

I'm using a heat-mat at the moment to give them a nice start, but I'm a bit worried they will fall over!

Is this something to be worried about? I plan to put them in a larger container today or tomorrow.

    Thanks in advance,

After rooting and initial leaves appear the plant should be about 2 inches high before
you change it to a bigger pot i cant see those surviving with such long stems.
Check out Jorge Cervantes book Indoor marijuana growing.

Damn... I guess they are going to fall over then.

So the mistake I made was overheating them at the start, and that made them go up-up-up? I'm guessing ideally they would grow more in the width as they grow, but these guys went straight for the sky. Mind you, this happened 3 days after germination. I have experience with a lot of different plants, but the speed in which these guys decided to climb is something I have never seen before.

I don't grow pot-so I don't know. Take my post with a grain of salt.

I don't see why that would have anything to do with heat. It looks like you don't have a light on them, and they're desperate for light. That's what plants do when they want light: they go up, towards light.

Once, just to see what would happen, I grew a plant with too little light. It grew up quickly, but NOWHERE near that badly, the cotyledons were where they belonged: on the ground. Maybe I can't see right, but it looks like your cotyledons are up on the TOP of that thing?

Yes, those are the cotyledons on top of that skyscraper. Light might have been the issue, without a doubt. They just grew far faster then I could have ever imagined. Going from day 1 "Oh they sprouted!" to day 3 "Wtf...this can't be right."

Do they stand a chance? And if so, whats the best way for me to help them. These seeds don't come cheap.. I payed 30 euro's for 5 feminized, and on top of that.. timewise I need to hurry up or I will be out of season.

Stands good chance i'd say. Prop them up so they cant fall over straws with some kinda loose tie or re pot them deep so only first inch is showing. As been said stretching due to poor light, put them under lights or move into a more sunny spot.

Thanks for the reply, I replanted them in slightly larger containers, and have put them in a lighter spot. I didn't have a container that was 4 inches deep, but not too wide, so they are now sticking out close to 2 inches, instead of the initial 3-4 inches. I put a straw next to them, and if will attach is when needed.
When I took them out for replanting, the roots looked very healthy, this is an amazing herb.

Thanks for the advice, lets how they pull through.

Yes, thanks for the welcome. It's always great to find helpful communities on the internet willing to give some advice. I will post a new picture, with perhaps some new questions, later on in their life :)

    regards,

    Nath

They were actually fine in the containers you have them in The starter ..
Cannabis will stretch like that sometime if you didnt place the seed far enough down. Im guessing you germinated them in that. Next time, germinate them in dish of water,. when they open, place them HALF a finger deep, light moist soil on them.. Light closer, if your growing them on windowsill, there is nothing you can do about the stretch.. The sun does that many times to new cannabis plants..

Yes, I germinated them in the soil, in those containers. Good to know they can be seeded deeper down, I'm usually a bit carefull with that as I wanted the first leaves to start their photosynthesis-magic. They are stilll looking happy, and I have "high hopes" for the summer :).

Thanks for the comment. It eases me to find out this isn't such a big deal. I just need to make sure they get enough light now :).

    Thanks again,

    Nath

Well the reasons we dont want to use small containers like that. They can get flooded real fast and super dry out in a hurry... Try planting in a larger peat pot, garden section .. or just the big pots your going to transfer them to anyways..

I had one with a stem almost that long. I transplanted it outside when it looked much like yours (breaking 1/3 of its roots too! :S ), and a week later it was on it side. I didn't look at it for two whole months; I expected a dead plant but found a nice healthy one, much to my surprise.

Long story short, give 'em a shot.
