Barefoot Underground

Discussion in 'Barefoot' started by Deleted member 159087, Jul 11, 2009.

  1. Any barefooters here who live in cities with subways/undergrounds who enjoy ridin' the rails barefoot? Any problems from "shoe police"?

can't beat the London underground for barefooting. And never any hassle in a million years. In fact people on the tube won't speak to anyone unless they really can't avoid it.

While I prefer to live on tiny, underpopulated islands in the middle of the Pacific, I do frequently travel to big cities and always use public transportation, always barefoot. So far I've ridden the subway/metro/underground/tube in: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Seoul, Tokyo, New York and Washington DC.

I often get curious glances, and one time had a great conversation with someone who began hostile, thinking me a religious fanatic, only to do a 180 in attitude after my clear, rational reasoning regarding barefooting. I've not yet had an issue with shoe police, but we'll be visiting 22 European cities starting in 12 days, so I'll follow up with a report on my experiences there.

The London underground is great barefooting territory, with cool, smooth floors everywhere, and no-one ever comments. Very dirty though.

I've gone barefoot in the NYC subway many times. No problems other than a rude comment from a young black male teen on the way back to Manhattan from Coney Island.

No hassles on any public transport (bus, tram, subway) in Germany so far. And, since I don't have a car, I am an avid barefoot user of public transport.

Wiggling happy toes, since my replacement AC adapter for my notebook arrived today... back online (barefoot of course),

As mentioned earlier, the London Underground is great for barefooting. No problem at all. Different surfaces, tiles or dark smooth surfaces. At the end of it all, your feet gets very dirty and filthy black soles.

Done NYC subways and like the descriptions of it and London above, very cool feeling and very dirty. My soles looked like they were painted black.

I've been barefooting in Rome several times, spending much time in the subways and boy, they're even dirtier than the surface. and Rome will make your soles repulsively dirty, not to mention the forced glass walks :eek:nce the crowd forced me to march over a ten feet long carpet of smashed beer bottles , luckily i didnt get any splinters... never shuffle your feet on glass i couldnt refrain from sneaking a peek at the faces surrounding me , they were a riot ... oh also you meet the rudest, most aggressive and even violent nosy parkers ever. the worst ones are ALWAYS found in the subways . so god damn that cradle of filth. cities are so evil.

Always been an ambition of mine to barefoot in London - especially on the smooth floors of the tube stations. Perhaps I'll get to it this year sometime...:)

Me too - spent a couple of days there back in 2005, my soles were sooo black. My wife was so amused that she took a photo of them which I'll post if I can find it on my pc..:2thumbsup:

The Toronto subway is a bit different. It still feels great walking on the different cool surfaces and the cars etc but for black soles, it was a disappointment - just a dusty grey!

Amazing, we even keep the subways clean!

Can't we be a little dirty?
