Hey, y'all. My Rainbow name is Green and I was on the road, I think end of 91-fall of 92. I was already hanging out with a group of very awesome friends in college, and one night we came home to my brother and a bunch of his redneck friends talking about some "fucking hippies in the woods," and we all perked up. Really? So we loaded the car with blankets and got our cooler full of beer, and went looking. All we knew was that they were somewhere near Wiggins, MS, so we drove around, having no idea what we were looking for. We even went door knocking, even though we were out in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night. Someone finally figured out where they were, so we headed to SR whateveritwas (go past the "mall" (which was a tiny mom and pop convenience store), then turn left at the place where a church had burnt down, down there somewhere. Ohhkay. By that time, we were pretty high and everything, and we saw some pink balloons on the side of the road! Hell yeah! Little Hawk helped us park, of course, and we got out with our blankets and cooler. I'll never forget that first time of getting out of the car and being told "Welcome Home!" Hugs all around, and just a very profound sense of actually being home, though I'd never been there in my life. It was probably the moment I decided to go on the road, though I wasn't actively aware of it at the time. Little Hawk named me Green that night, because I was dressed in all green and green was my soapbox at that time. Then we were told we couldn't take the alcohol in. WTF? I'd never heard of a party in the woods w/ no alcohol, so we all just stayed out at A-camp and partied with them for a while. Little Hawk was awesome, gave us a ton of information we'd never thought of (KEEP YOUR BUTTS IN YOUR PANTS, for example, I know, duh), and, lucky for us, he was in the story-telling mood, so he told us stories for a couple hours. I don't remember everyone who was there by name, but people were doing things like playing the drums, doing hair wraps for us, etc. It was sooo awesome@!# But we kept hearing the drums from the drum circle, and we really wanted to go in, so we decided to leave the beer behind and go in. This is a book-length story, so I'll just say that that was one of the most wonderful nights of my life. I dropped out of college and hit the road shortly after that. I usually put my tent near the drum circle, but plugged in at a few different kitchens. My "home" kitchen is Tea Time, but I spent time with others, like Biscuit, Kiddy Kamp, and just a few random ones that I can't remember the names of. But I always plugged in (when I was able. sometimes I wasn't). I traveled with a lot of different people: I had a huge orange van that carried a kitchen for a while. I traveled with a girl named Andrea who was a vegan and had 6 vegan kitties and like 25 alfalfa plants in her station wagon (not to mention the 6 humans lol). She was an absolute genius about all things vegan, sewing, herbs, etc, not to mention the fact that she was gorgeous, inside and out. I traveled with a girl named Flower from Johnson City, TN. She was the kind of sister who just made you smile when you were anywhere near her. She was also a fabulous seamstress and jewelry maker, and she'd make road money selling her clothes and jewelry, and I'd make a lil bit doing hair wraps in show parking lots. (I was taught to do hair wraps by Patrick, if anyone knows who he is. At that time, he was one of the best there was! I was very lucky!) We had two baby skunks we rescued in TN, and traveled with them for a while. I traveled with a girl named Rebecca from FL. I think she got a rainbow name at one point, but it's been a long time. She was remarkable, from her smile to her encyclopedic brain. We had a VERY interesting trip from MS to, I think it was TN (maybe KY), with the daughter of a KKK top dude and a SXE skinhead. I think someone may have yelled once or twice, but the conversations and debates we had were incredible and respectful. One of the most intense 8+ hours I've experienced. I traveled with a sister from GA who was in a wheelchair. My brain is so shot tonite, can't remember her name, She was this interesting combination of biker/hippie, and was a lot of fun. I hope she is doing alright. I lived in a tent with Clearwater for a little while. He's one of the best friends I had on the road. I remember seeing him walking up to his first gathering with his wide blue eyes. Wonder how he's doing, anyone know? I noticed that he posted on these forums. I last saw him in 1999, I think, at the ntl in PA. There was this kid named Eagle and his mom I hung out with for a while. Eagle was my kid's age, or close (about 9-10), and was a totally awesome brother who knew everything about how to survive in the woods. I could not have been more impressed. They were from MS also, and I wonder how they are. I remember setting up a seed camp with a buncha folks in Cumberland, which got shot up by a bunch of rednecks with shotguns. No fatalities, a couple injuries, and a few ruined tents. I remember helping put out a bog fire in Ocala that the offcials gave us kudos for. I remember a 6-fucking-layer cake made for someone's birthday in a clay oven. I remembering Clearwater and I becoming the jonesing champs in Tea Time one morning when we were able to convince people to bring us coffee, breakfast, cigarettes, weed and candy to us in our tent. lol! I remember a miles-long hike into town to get OJ from Ocala. I remember a BLIZZARD in GA that drove us out of the woods onto the parking lot of a Dead show in Atlanta. Those poor food/water vendors; we were giving it all away!! I remember the glow in the dark caterpillars in KY. I met SOOO many people that there is no way I could list them all. I remember Dave and Kit from TT. I remember falling in love with a guy named Turtle from Florida. I remember Dr. Dingleboulder (who could forget him?). I remember Caveman. I remember some not-so-pleasant things, too, like the close call with the mussels in Alabama, cops being jerks, etc, but I had a lot more good times than bad. None of this is in chronological order. I came off the road to go back to school and such, but I've been to a couple of MS gatherings since, and the ntl in PA. I have rheumatoid arthritis, so it's not easy for me to go anywhere at all, but I hope to make it to another gathering or two before I die. Anyway, anyone who knew me, say hi, and if anyone knows how any of the people I mentioned are doing, lemme know! <3
how did you convince people to get you cigarettes and stuff to your camp? i only want to know for purely researchal reason
Well, Tea Time had this "ritual" of yelling out whatever we needed into the woods/sky/etc, like "TEA TIME NEEDS SHROOMS!" or whatever. Those things just seemed to materialize eventually, you know how that works at gatherings. CW and I woke up one morning and smelled coffee, so we laughed and decided to see what we could get by with. It was hilarious at the time.
Hey was Rebecca from Florida like named Cricket Shadowolf! I am a Rebecca and I hung out with the Tea Time family a long while back. I may be the Rebecca you are talking about as I definitely have an encyclopedic brain. I love to debate. Maybe not. The name Green does not ring any bells but then my brain cells have aged a bit. I was blonde back then age has darkened my hair and put wrinkles on my face. Clearwater is a very dear friend. Miss all them guys. Send me a pic as I do not ever forget a face. So, hey if you see our buddy Clearwater give him a BIG hug for me too. And give him a nice cup of Java. But never ever wake him up with DECAF. He nearly wrecked the whole tea kitchen one morning in Ocala one year. That was my first gathering. I was looking for him and his crew. Well, I found him by listening to him holler. He calmed down when he saw me and we made some real brew. I had some grinds in my pack which I of course kicked down to the cause. They had kept him up late and then woke him up at 9 am blowing on the horn and all that was cooked was Decaf and he went ballistic. Good thing I woke up early and was looking for a kitchen with some coffee. Clearwater is one of a kind. My rainbow name is the same as my street name with the Shadowolf added. Shadowolf came later and I do not know when. I also went around hugging every one as I was told to go randomly hug everyone when I was high.
Hmm, nope, a different Rebecca, but nice to meet you. Here's an ooold pic of me, I probably looked about the same when I was on the road. Forgive the darkness and the bird, it was the first pic ever taken for the internet.
Oh yeah Green. Go to Yahoo Groups and sign up for Tea Time Family. Haven't been any postings lately though. Clearwater is either in Knoxville or on the road. I told him you were on here looking to connect with Tea Time family. I was just on and posted and the last post was my Christmas post. Well, maybe he will check it and click there then here. Don't hold your breath though.
I was on the yahoo thing a long time ago, I believe. I'll have to set up a new yahoo account, I think. Thanks! <3
Clearwater was the only one who invited me into a kitchen in PA last year. It was my first gathering.Needless to say I never left. I decided to call myself the Tea Crone, as I was not cute enough to be a tea faery and too wrinkly to be a tea wench, and it stuck. He is married and has a beautiful baby girl. If you know his real name, he is on Facebook.
