Yea i feel that. that's the vibe i get from most people who dislike the song, and i can totally get where they're coming from. For me, it's that trance-like slow ascension that builds to an epic climax being the very reason for its brilliance. Similar to Stairway. But yea, it's whatevs. Everyone hears shit differently you know? I'll never convince my roomate that Led Zeppelin is a greater band than The Beatles, and vice versa. But i wouldn't want it any other way.
Stairway is much more dynamic imo and has a bad ass solo by Jimmy Page and Bonham goes off on the drums at the end of Stairway, there are shifts in Kashmir but none of the musicianship really stands out to me. As I said I like the song and I like the Middle Eastern sounding mode just not one of my favorites.
IMMIGRANT SONG ! Man it's great to see the younger generations so passionate about some of the best music of all time. Does my heart good to see it's living on . Keep on rockin ! Oh , also get hammer of the God's , great book about the mighty Zep ! It's a good read worth the time and money .
The Rain Song is my favorite. The Fantasia-esque mellotron sends me to heaven.. Some of my other favorites are No Quarter, Kashmir, Dazed and Confused (TSRTS version), Stairway, Over the Hills and Far Away, Ten Years Gone, Travelling Riverside Blues, etc.. Jimmy Page has some absolutely gorgeous unreleased acoustic guitar work.. "]YouTube - Led Zeppelin - Untitled Acoustic Outtake (DADGAG Tuning)
Yea for sure. I'd say Kashmir has to do more with the arrangement, the crescendo into the climax with the orchestra, while each band member is basically reserving their musicianship for the better of the whole piece.
Hmm favorite songs from one of the best bands ever? Stairway (backwards and forward) The Ocean No Quarter MOBY DICK!!! ALL BOW BEFORE THE EPIC DRUM sOLO!!! And have you all listened to the 25 min long version of Dazed and Confused from How the West was Won disc 2? flipping sweet. The Battle of Evermore Four Sticks Going to California What is and What Should Never Be I could probably go on, but then i'd list most of their discography!
