Hey, I don't know what made me look at this, or why barefooting strikes me as amazingly awesome, but I read some posts about how you actually feel the blades of grass between your toes, and how amazing it is.. Well I went out and walked around our house a few times, watching where I stepped, paying attention .. and sure enough, it felt great to actually feel the soft grass under my feet. Seeing the ever so slight dustiness on the bottoms starting to form. Man it is great. I like it alot. Funny thing is, I was reading about how you watch where you walk, and if you would've worn shoes, etc etc.. told my Roommate about that and she's like "Yeah, sure." Well to my surprise, I walk back inside, step on the dogs feet.. she yelped and I kicked my shoeless foot away from her out of instinct with full force right into the corner of the couch. So much for watching where you step! I gotta pay more attention. Any general advice you guys could give to someone wanting to start barefooting?
Its great you've discovered the joy of walking around barefoot and all, but I really don't understand how you're only now discovering it? Not just you, but in general...a lot of people on the barefoot forum act like walking around barefoot is some magical thing they discovered as adults. Didn't you guys ever walk around barefoot as children?? I literally never wore shoes during the summer except to go to church as a child. From the last day of school in May to the first day of school in August, I walked everywhere barefoot. Anywho..as far as advice you just need to build up your soles. Practice walking on tough surfaces, like gravel, to build them up faster.
You've never really barefooted before? I never have socks and shoes on when i'm at my house are friend's houses. I only have shoes on (generally flip flops) in the halls at my school (i take of my flip flops during class) and when I'm shopping or eating out.
When I was little I never left the house barefoot. Not even flip flops. It was socks and shoes every day for the first 18 years of my life. Then a year ago I bought my first pair of flip flops and it's progressed from there. As stupid as this sounds to me now, my mom always told me that if I didnt wear shoes I WOULD cut my foot and WOULD have to go to the hospital. Needless to say, I was very sheltered as a child.
lol I actually did have several instances where I stepped on glass and nails as a kid..nothing that required a hospital visit, although I did have to get a tetnus shot once or twice. Stuff like that toughens kids up
this attitude is what turns people into dependent, phobic, frightened, weak, ill beings. the trick is conditioning people from the beginning. that's also why children are sent to sunday school, to enslave them for life. later when people grows up, getting rid of the brainwash is hard and sometimes impossible.
