by your standard, if the earth was only 2,011 years old

everything was created after the death of jesus. this counteracts all bible study - so you're inadvertedly defeating the purpose of christian teaching.

2011 is only AD... Everything before is referred to as BCE... Although I am sure this is just a joke post. If you are going to be giving out points, I say give it back to atheists, as religiously, Christians are supposed to recognize that the earth is only a few thousand years old, even when considering before the common era.

Hope you're right, but can't be too careful around here.

Still, it's nice to know that since it's May, the fifth month of the year, that I'm now only 5 months old, and so no longer in my 30s. But crap, now I can no longer buy booze!

I'm a Christian, and I have to say-does it matter? Does it really matter how old the Earth is? I just don't see any point debating this.

My brother used to seriously think dinosaur bones were planted by the NWO in order to deter people away from Christianity.

He has an IQ of like 150 and a master's degree. Sad, right?

I think the OP was joking around.

Anyone who has taken any World Civ. course or at least has a working knowledge of some history knows this answer...

Knowing that the Earth is billions of years old rather than thousands changes a person's entire world view. It changes everything. It allows for an accurate conception of evolution and how we came into being, which in turn allows for advances in biological study and medicine. It encourages a less geocentric philosophy as it becomes clear that this planet is one of billions which have been around for a huge amount of time - this is a positive step because when you zoom out, you gain a healthier perspective. Knowing the approximate age of the Earth allows for study of extinct species and lets us begin trying to determine how much longer this planet has, to name just a few uses for this information. Knowing the facts about the universe we're so bizarrely conscious in is vital if humanity is to progress beyond voodoo and stories of magical dead guys on sticks.

The fact that there are some humans who still, despite the evidence, are adamant that the Earth is so much younger is also worth studying. Such assumptions are understandable without evidence, yet they are defended even when science proves them incorrect. This can tell us something about how our minds are working, namely that the vastness of the universe frightens or confuses, the human struggles to conceive of a world without him or his planet at the centre, a human's concept of time is very limited and the idea of a younger Earth is comforting as it simplifies matters.

Try to have a conversation with a hardcore creationist about biology or genetics. It's generally a nightmare. That's because they've cut off the entire area of knowledge by covering their ears and shouting LA LA LA when a scary or complicated bit comes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Therefore, evolution observed in the faithful manner of certain dates and years for development should be for the goodness of Faith realized beyond any human's certainty for beauty.

Still got the differences with Knowing at God, at religious possibility. Knowledge could be to know just the cultural content of the Being, the animal which conclusively IS Man, in Time. Knowing is pre-ontologically disposed as well at living Consciousness of man; thus the Gap of evolution for deciding when and where the beast changed is about the so-called Mutation, n'est-ce pas?:sunny:

Woah, long post there buddy. What I was saying is what does discussing how old the Earth is have to do with God's love and existence? It can be a waste of time debating, because one day for God could have been millions of years for us. God exists outside time as it is.

I now figure he was just trying to make a dumb joke.
