Your opinions are always welcome Scratcho. Your American experience is sort of like a foreshadowing to our next some odd years... What bothers me the most is that, in my experience, the majority who vote only vote for the party who drops the hot topic item that is music to peoples' ears, "taxes", "economy", etc. They don't actually bother to look into the real agenda of the party. My grandma, whom I love, is 85 years old and pretty damn quick. She's voted Conservative her entire life. Two weeks ago I asked her who she would be voting for and why. She answered me that she would be voting Conservative because she's voted Conservative her entire life. I asked why. She responded that she doesn't like the NDP because her family never liked them. I asked why. She responded that it was because they support unions and they would spend too much money. This is just one example of one person who has voted for one party their entire life based on no real fact or reason to worry. In fact, if Harper had his way, my grandma would be paying full price for her meds, thus draining the money she's supposed to live off of for the rest of her life. Of course I believe that everybody is entitled to their opinion. I just wish that if people were going to vote for a party, especially one as destructive to democracy as the Conservative party is, I wish they would understand the seriousness of their actions and not just get caught up in the bullshit that the party leaders spew forth all along the election trail.
I'm glad Harper finally has a majority. And better than that, the opposition is extremely weak and inexperienced. Canada has had one of the best performing economies in the world and with that track record Harper deserves the opportunity to be in a majority government.
The reason canada has one of the best performing economies is in spite of harper, not because of him. You really should do some research.
I do not as a rule follow Canadian politics. And generally speaking would never consider throwing my hat into the ring (here). On the other hand.... I could be mistaken and probably am. Sounds to me like Canada just got stuck with 4 years of the Canadian version of Obama. Couldn't happen to a nicer country. Naturally I expect a douche bag of trouble/nasty comments coming my way due to this post. Bring it on.
Who gives a fuck how our economy compares to other countries. At the end of the day, what does that mean to you? Yes, it's great that we haven't experienced the unemployment rate the US has, but what kind of measurement is that with which to measure the well being of our country and ourselves?
Look at how fucked up the US is. Seriously, take a long, clear consideration of the state of that country. You think they survived? Seriously?
sorry Canadians, just another American weighing in... Exactly. Its not like Reagan served as President for a few years with zero impact on the country which he presided over. His policies are exactly why we are in this mess now. Trickle down economics has fucked this country over, completely. Reagan is the reason corporations get huge tax cuts. He is the reason for the growing gap between the rich and the poor. Reagan fucking sucked. I've noticed many people fail to look towards the past to understand the present when it comes to politics, but Reagan's fucked up brand of conservatism is still going strong in America. It certainly "trickled down." I hope that Harper's policies do not prove to be as long lasting and devastating to Canada. exactly. We're barely hanging on by a thread and its not because of Carter or Clinton. Its because of Reagan and the two Bush's that worshipped him and his policies.
How is it that you think sending billions of dollars out of the country to buy jets that aren't even compatible with our current hardware, at a time when the government is already running massive deficits, is going to help our economy? How is reducing the government controls on banks and corporations and reducing oversight of them going to help us? Those controls and that oversight are exactly what has kept Canada ahead of the pack in the economic crisis. The only thing about harper policies that have anything to do with improving our economy, are the lies he tells about it all. He says, "I'm the only one who can save you" and those who don't look any further then that, believe he is good for the economy... Those who actually put any thought or time into researching the issues beyond his statements, quickly come to realize these things. Well... at least those who are capable of thinking anyway...
You seem to be one of them, so; why is how our economy holds up on the world stage important to you personally?
Nobody said buying the jets was good for the economy. Straw man. Have you ever heard of Basel III? That's a tightening of controls on banks and Canada is going to adopt it. How is that reducing oversight? I notice you make a lot of statements like this. No arguments or facts, just assertions that you are smart and do lots of research and anyone who disagrees with you is stupid. I don't find it especially convincing.
This just demonstrates that you are nothing but a troll here. The facts have been being quoted over and over again from multiple sources. If you are too stupid to read them, that is your problem.
