i've never been an actual fan of the movie plot, but i was always interested in the story behind the titanic sinking and the tradgedy that unfolded the night of april 14th, 1912... anyways, this was, and still is, one of my all time favorite movies. for a film that was made in '96, the special effects are awesome (they were pretty much cutting edge for the time) and kate winslet is a hottie. and it was cool to see the titanic made up all over again so we in the (then) late 20th century could experience what it was like to live in the early 20th century...

    thoughts?

well man, I just hated the romance, I wanted to see some more of the techcnical aspects, as for the Caprio and Winslett, I whish they drowned in a bathub after 5 mins of the movie, then have the ppl who build it explain especs, how they palnnned it.....shit man they dont even hint at about the hul metal, it was brittle so it broke easily, nowdays the metal used in the hul is a bit flexible, or at least wont break that easily, I wanted that kind of facts, cause its callled "Titanic" not "two ppl fucking int he Titanic"

same for pearl harbour, and that shit about ben affleck hitting the watter at about 600k/m in his spitfire and not dying is science fiction, the Zeros should be grey in that era.

I mean, if you want romance go and see a rene sigwiver (SP?) / hug grant shit, but I wanted some right to earth facts in those movies, and I find a love story, what´s left of the Titanic, I mean the real boat...a song by celine dion,

by the way man, I sound pissed but its just that they disapointed me so much with all the trailers and shit.

long live "looking for private Ryan".

i agree man, there was definitely too much kissy kissy in the movie... but you never know, that movie is already considered a "classic" so maybe before we die there will be a remake and we can actually see some disaster going on... :D

I've been studying the Titanic since I was very young, before that damn movie came out because I had a great-great grandmother who was going to come to America on it, but changed her plans and went on a diferent ship. As for the movie, Cameron made the movie because ever since they found the wreck he's had a major intrest in the Titanic and wanted to make a movie that would show all aspects of the ship, and he does do a good job, he shows it pretty historical, but still, it diddn't need a love story. If you want a good Titanic movie without the love story, watch A Night to Remember.

Yes, I wish both Rose and Jack fell off the stern on that night and the rest of the movie was just about the actual disaster. There is 1 fact though in the movie that is painfully not true and I don't know why it's in there, when Andrews said "she's made out of iron sir, I guarentee you she can sink" the Titanic was made out of steel, not good steel, but steel none the less.

The above statement is one reason I didn't like Titanic lol. Actually it is the only reason though. I could have done without the romance. It definately takes away from the tragedy of the movie in my opinion. Think of how much harder the final scene would have hit home had it been as it was in real life. The rescue boat coming too late. An overhead shot of the thousands of dead. Then the rolling of the credits. I think that would have made a more dramatic impact on the viewer, and it would have definately been more historically acurate.

I had just seen the movie with a close male friend in early 2003. I'm not a history buff but I loved the movie.

it really is, besides all of the "chick flick" stuff, it's not anything like, let's say, sleepover or one of those movies. lots of historical details (albeit not ALL of them are exact). i agree, james cameron did a hell of a jo trying to recreate something that happened almost 100 years ago now...

Random fact for people: Did you know that Cameron refused to do the movie unless he was actually taken down to see the wreck since that had been a dream of his.

I think that Titanic is definatly more of a girly type movie. I like it for the historical aspect (despite some things being wrong) because I've always liked Titanic and I like that time period, but I only watch it when I need a good cry because I'm a complete sap.

The movie is ok I think, good n bad things. the girlish crying and romance have allready been mentioned.....

"oh jack......oh jack......I'll never let go jack" *exagurated desperate voice*

But there are parts I do like, for example how jack and fabricio and that irish man hang out with eachother.....and the part where jack is telling all them rich people about his way of life.....in the 60's he could have been a hippy.......

I love Titanic. If it was purely action and history with no romance, it wouldn't have been the huge hit that it was. I cried my freaking eyes out (the scene with the mom reading to her kids just kills me) and any movie that provokes strong emotion is A-OK with me.

I find the history really interesting. But the movie was absolutley horrid. I was just reading an article about cheesy lines from movies, "I'm king of the world!" won first place :p
