i always find various relationships in the technical and philosophical communities interesting...i classify politics as 'philosophical' (along with any moral or 'religious' doctrine), even though i also call all politicians 'amoral' (which is, i suppose, a from of philosophy):

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DARPA

the bureaucracy is always in a war to justify and protect its existence. surveillance is one of the tools used.

Not to worry. I'm sure "they" just want to know where all of us are in case we---uh--in case we--uh --win a prize or something. Why,there couldn't be an ulterior motive. They represent --they uh--hmmmm. And they're so responsive to the wishes of the citizens of this country. Nothing can possibly go worg--Yessirrr--we got 'em right where we want 'em. Now please--Move on--resume your position on the treadmill.

The best spies make you reveal info without you even realizing what you're doing or who is recording it.

I'd say they're damn good spies.

Americans continue to compromise their privacy and freedom for "security". What a hoot!

But it's getting easier every single day. Remember that techonology evolves at an exponential rate and that the "technology-gap" between us and them is increasing at an equally exponential rate.

Allow me to explain my response.
In the last 50 years there has been very little technological change in the average american's home. The difference between the american household in the 1960s is:

    1) Cell phone
    2) Computer
    3) Microwave
    4) Flat screen TV
    5) DVDs / CDs / MP3 players.

Whereas the government has drastically evolved!
The police force used to only have access to billy bats, guns and water cannons for crow control. Some of the things they have :
    1) Body armour
    2) Pepper spray
    3) Tasers
    4) The Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSMyY3_dmrM&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) G20 Pittsburgh

    5) A hand held device to download data off of cell phones during routine traffic stops. http://stevenbirnspeaks.wordpress.c...ce-download-cell-phone-data-at-traffic-stops/

    6) GPS and satalite vehicle tracking without the need to install anything on the suspect's car.

The list is long and the above is only the tip of the iceberg. If you saw some of the stuff that the police have brought into a court room to use against a suspect. You would just fall down on your knees and cry because it's bad now and it's getting worst. And that's just law enforcement. I'm not even going to try and research what the military has in its arsenal.

I'm not fear mongering. People need to be made aware of what the current situation. Made aware so that they can take the necessary steps to protecting themself.

    My advice about Facebook.
Never sign up for an account and do everything you can to find out which of your "real life friends" has an account and avoid them like a disease. One of my collegues is fighting the legality of a search warrent obtained by the use of information gathered from Facebook. The suspect doesn't have a facebook account but many of his real-life-friends do. They got him based on their conversations.

Forgive me for using the vernacular but I read a comment that sums up my sentiments on this subject.

Just because I pee and poop like all life forms on this planet. Does not change the fact that I still close the bathroom door when I do those things.

I've got nothing to hide. But there are somethings that are obviously none of anyone else's business.

Right? I liked Dominoes just for the fuck it and all they do is spam your wall with pictures of fucked up pizza orders. Promptly deleted ^^ Well I figure neither me or my friends are doing anything that would be of any particular interest to the government... so I'm like fuck it.

    ^ Sadly this is true.

People just need to remember that they need to keep their personal lives private. You have rights damn it! Exercise them! You have a right to say as little or as much about yourself as you like.

Screw. Social. Networking. If you don't know them in real life its best not to correspond with them seriously. Write down phone numbers and actually use the phones you buy.

I only put on there what is already public knowledge, or what I want the public to know. I realize that the intel agencies could dig up far more on me if they tried. Oh well, let them try. I only give out what is already known.

I'm right there with you on this Imaginary Being. Good dismantling of that useless analogy put forward by Voice of no Truth.

Although there is very little proof of this, I do not doubt it at all, and I do think it is wrong, and not American. There is no American value anymore anyways though.

I have my own political agenda on facebook, putting forth articles of my choosing, mostly from Huffpost, sharing my rundown on the situations. I mostly focus on Corporate-Governmental corruption. I have long suspected my opinions have been under surveillance, especially after my facebook was targeted with an NSA employment ad.

But it doesn't concern me the least bit, because I know there is no actual threat imposed on me. I wish there was a threat imposed on my life, so I don't have to take my own life.

If anything I want the "intelligence" agencies to know who I am, because I've got nothing to hide. I want how I feel about this fucked up world accessible to some mother fucker working inside the system. If anything, that's the best shot at democracy.

But in the long run, it won't prove to be anything, or accomplish anything, whatever the information gathered it will ultimately be useless to a system neglectful of the people.

I've always wondered why the conspiracy theorists claim the Government wants us to live in fear, to relinquish our liberties. Fighting fear with fear? Doesn't make sense to me. Ultimately you should always be at peace with who you are, what you do, and the opinions you hold. This kind of fear of the system further encourages the relinquishing of a steady, peaceful, aware mind.

It's not about right or wrong, because everything has always been wrong. The only chance you have to live in the right world, is be comfortable and strong in the face of all threats to privacy.

So I say, post that picture of your shit on facebook.

    Extrapolate the commentary.

It basically means that it's not about having anything to hide or not. Some things are personal and private. No one is required to justify their personal and private affairs to anyone. And what is personal and private is anything I want it to be.

If law enforcement or the governement believes I'm guilty of a criminal offense, then they need to charge me and present their evidence before the courts. The burden of proof is not on the accused, it's on the accuser. That means I can hide anything I want in my life and I don't have to justify my reasons for doing so to anyone. Whereas they need to justify their accusations.

The problem is they're literally data mining. They are creating dossiers on everyone and using ever trick they can to get evidence. So even if you're not on Facebook but your brother is. Can you guess what??? They have a dossier on you because of your brother.

Under normal circumstances, this is ilegal. Unfortunately, the goverment is using private corporations to do their dirty work. And the private corporations are using media hype to trick people into giving up their information.
