Some people seem to use it as their diaries, other people use it to keep up with a select few, some don't use it at all; some keep their image clean, some hide their name. How do you use it? What kinda things do you post/read?
I had it at university to keep in touch with school friends, then got rid of it a couple of years ago because it bored me reading about babies and bad drivers and all the other rubbish people post about. A lot of people I know though, put everything that happens in their life, no matter how small and pointless on there, and then get 40 replies. People are strange.
I use it to keep in contact with friends I don't hang out with all the time, to reconnect with old friends I haven't seen in forever, to keep in touch with friends and family who live far away, etc... I might sign in once a week or so. Most of my friends usually have something interesting or worthwhile to post but there are a few whose updates I automatically skip right over cuz they never post anything unless it's about their ugly children or complaints of boredom. On the rare occasion I have something witty/interesting to post, I do it but I usually keep it pretty private or cryptic. I don't say anything I wouldn't want certain family members or employers to see, which doesn't leave me with much. I come here to say all the incriminating stuff
Mostly I play BubbleSpinner via MindJolt games I skim through the front page of statuses sometimes, but people are pretty boring.
I just use it to keep up to date with bands and tour dates and stuff, it's handy sometimes for getting a hold of pre-sale tickets. It is useful for something.
I keep in touch with friends and updates on music in the area, plus its my sounding board for anti-repucklicism and anti-mountain top removal.......:-/
I hate when they remove mountain tops. Fuck that shit. Mcleod, they do it for mining purposes. I use facebook for the purpose of deactivating it every few days only to reactivate it a week later. After I reactivate it I use it to keep track of local shows and stuff. Other than that, sometimes I use it to scroll down the news feed page and think to myself, "why the hell did I need to keep up with this dumb bitch after high school? facebook is a really dumb idea," then I deactivate it again. About twice a year I'll get really overwhelmed with how much I love my friends (real friends, not facebook friends) and I'll post something like, "I have the greatest friends in the entire world," because its quicker than telling them all individually. But then I tell them individually anyways, and think about how stupid facebook is, and deactivate my account.
I use it to keep up with my friends because...pretty much every single friend I have has moved away. And the people who live close to me who are on there, well, I keep them mostly because I love looking at people's pictures. Haha.
It is a great middle-ground for keeping acquaintances: you don't need to talk to them, but there is some level of contact.
I don't post too often, it's more attempts at humor when I do interact as it's mostly used to keep up with friends. With that said, I don't allow anyone in my friends list just because I know them.
i occasionally use it to talk to people i wouldn't have access to otherwise, like internet friends if the site we know each other from is down, or old friends whose phone numbers i no longer have. and i thank the slew of people who speak to me once a year to say happy birthday.
I have a lot of distant relatives that I keep in touch with via facebook. Other than that, facebook can burn in hell and everyone who finds it necessary to whine on it can also burn.
