    Title^?

P.S. Indoor cat if it makes a difference. Oh and the cat was on it's side with legs extended completely stiff (rigor mortis I think...but it could have been the way it died i'm not sure) and a little pool of white vomit by its mouth. I'm thinking dehydration but I don't know. Its depressing as fuck.

    Thanks

Sorry. Losing a pet is the worst.

It sounds like something else. Like it ate something that it shouldn't have. It probably died the previous day (for rigor mortis to set in).

No, they can't die after *only* 1 1/2 days without water.. unless you do that all the time and gave the cat a chance to dehydrate itself.. but it sounds like something else killed the cat

House-sitters always fuck something up, dude.

About... 1/3rd of the time that we have one, a pet ends up emotionally damaged or dead. Best get a close friend to do it next time.

1 1/2 days does not seem very long.

they can die after 30 seconds of no water, but it's not from dehydration.

was it an old cat? i really really doubt it was the lack of water. my guess is old age, it got into something, or it was something completely random that can't be identified based on the information here.

like someone else mentioned, if it was already stiff it had been dead for a little while. so we're really talking 1 1/4 days with no water, tops.

it would seem very likely that lack of water was not the only factor. diarea can cause dehydration in humans as well as other life forms. as can many many other conditions.

was by any chance the swiffer used to clean floors in that house? this has been known to cause many pet deaths.
but that's just one example. if the cat lacked access to water for a day and a half, that is a reprehensible negligence, that may have contributed to its demise.
i seriously doubt though, that there was not some other condition present.
are you really sure it was only one and a half days that it lacked access to water?
there are really so many things; some kinds of mold. fleas, ticks, not so much in themselves, but other diseases they might have been carrying, or infections. intestinal parasites, and on and on.

Depends on the conditions, mostly temperature and activity, but some other things as well, but in and of itself, a day and a half without water wouldn't kill a cat.

There are other causes which lack of water could contribute to a fairly quick death though, such as kidney problems, which can be fairly common in cats eating dry food. Particularly male cats.

But I'm just guessing. Could be completely natural causes.

    Anyway, sorry about the cat.

I agree that lack of water might have contributed to the issue but there was most likely something else as the main cause of death. You can get a necropsy done if you're that curious. Either way, I'm sorry for your loss, losing one of your best friends is very tough :(

I work in a kennel and I think they are a good alternative to at-home pet sitters. The cons are that they can get expensive and can be a stressful experience for your pet if they are not used to that type of environment, although most do fine. And please do your research before picking one. All kennels are not equal, don't settle for just any one. Find one that has a caretaker on the premises 24/7 and has access to an emergency vet, I don't trust places that leave the animals alone overnight...
