So Alan Wilson of canned heat was Amazing with a capitol "A". Who else is privy to this musical prodigy? The bands popularity peeked in the sixties and since then they have become very obscure. They played at woodstock and only a few of their woodstock tunes made it through the tides of time. Here is on from woodstock the quality isnt the best but its such a gem that quality doesnt even matter... http://media.abovetopsecret.com/media/6744/Canned_Heat_-_I_know_My_Baby/ Some of my favorites... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJyL9qY0RDA"]Poor Moon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mOVlNdAgw4"]Sloppy Drunk So what does everyone think?
I think the absence of response to this topic is a travesty! Wilson's musical aptitude was nothing shy of ingenious. He possessed an insight of Blues music and tradition extensively disparate from the more flagrant maestros savvy with the genre. Here's a youtube rendering of the ATS link.. https://www.youtube.com/embed/S67FpQOqvoA And this, which should probably be considered 'outside art'.. https://www.youtube.com/embed/CCVsEMZv_gY
Yea tell me about it.. Piano Blues is a piece of blues genius. I think it displays Alan's passion for music and his feeling for the blues. You can feel it, he is playing so sincerely it's beautiful. The real shame I think is that more people can't respect his musical ability. By far one of the greatest musicians of the past hundred years easy..
only know a few tunes by canned heat.. loved the ones i heard tho.. i love when someone brings up a great band from the past, reminds me to dig up the music and discover it all over again. thanks
His passing was overshadowed by the deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin the same month that Wilson died. It's notable that Canned Heat had 3 hit songs with him (Going Up the Country, On the Road Again, and Let's Work Together) but no hits without him.
