Well, what would be the pros and cons of both? Which one would you rather use? What do you think would be the environmental/economic benefits of everyone riding a horse instead of a car?

I don't believe that animals are meant to be ridden, I think it's more cruel than eating them.

It would be great for the environment however. I just can't picture large fields in the middle of cities where employees park their horses for the day.

Maybe in rural areas it would work.

I feel it would be even more cruel to polute and destroy their world with cars then to ride on there backs. A horse would care not if it was treated well.

I think biking is the best alternative to driving, and riding a horse for transportation, not just to ride it, is cruel.

treatment of horses as a vehicle vs the materials used to make and maintain a car? horse > car, by far.
because you can't treat, use and maintain a car in a healthy socionomic and environmental way.
maybe when cars are biodegradable and run on recycleable electricity would then cars be better than horses.

I've gone horseback riding numerous times when I was younger and really loved it.

Some of the horses seemed really happy, others seemed a bit pooped (maybe on the ranch too long); but I don't know, they're pretty tough animals and they seem to relate real well with humans, like dogs do.

It would of course depend on how well they are taken care of, but I would like to hear if you have any more specific thoughts on it.

EXATCLY! Horses are for the most part very strong minded and individual. If you treat it with respect and care for it the horse will gladly let you ride it. If you’re a dick to the horse and most cases the horse will be a dick to you. There is no cruelty here. Not to mention being ridden is good exorcise for them. I don't understand what’s cruel about having a commune with nature.

The bond between horse and rider is far more about love and respect than cruelty. I know lots of "horse people" who greatly care for their animal friends. I don't think using horses for transportation would be wrong on that level. In our currnet world though it simply would not be feasible...there aren't enough horses or facilities for them and even if there were that would amount to a lot of horse shit. We get enough shit from polititians and preachers witout adding to the pile.

Lol. It worked 150 years ago though. Imagine a society which utilized not just horses but bikes, subways and air planes. I think that could work. Not a walk of life that couldn't benefit from that.

sure.. if you can safely find a way to get rid of the manure left by 7 billion horses shiting in the street daily, horses could be the way to go (back)

Only about 900million-1.5billion people would really need to ride a horse. I mean do you really think every child, old person, wealthy business men and peoples without an able body would be riding a horse? lol

Edit: What do we do with 7billion people shitting in there house daily? lulz

you could do that.. but considering 100,000 horses produce about 2.5 million pounds of shit a day...... it'd take a pretty big investment in cleaning, collecting and processing the stuff just to get it from street to field
