If what you're saying is true, why is there still war going on and our troops being endangered? My sig is a rhetorical question and my posts are on behalf of the dead and dying American soldiers WHO COULD USE ALL THE HELP THAT THEY CAN GET...
The help they need is being pulled out, not sending more in for the slaughter. The war is unjust and unnecessary. I guess you didn't get my joke before. You're not exactly the smartest troll.
I didn't say anything about a draft. My question was about how American males should feel. On the subject of a draft, I would like to see one, but I said nothing about 9/11 being the justification for one... OUR TROOPS COULD USE ALL THE HELP THAT THEY CAN GET...!
oh, i hadn't even looked at his sig when i responded before. i just didn't buy the logical leaps he was pretending to make. to be fair, my best interpretation was that you were telling the troops to get abortions...
I'm finished. The war in Afghanistan is not over. We can't just sit back and watch our troops be killed and injured. Good-bye all.
No. First of all, I do not see many of our military's exploits as being of any service to the well being of America. If the United States federal government were a legitimate governing body instead of the war criminal corporate tool that attaches the wages of its working class to the illegal acts of aggression against countries that either harbor a resource coveted by the oligarchs really running the show, or are in a strategic position to interrupt the economic vehicle that converts the resource (usually oil) into wealth I'd suggest peaceful civil service such as joining the Peace Corps. However, I think the greatest service that any of today's youth can do for themselves and succeeding generations, is to be the necessary transformation that the country desperately needs; to begin discussions on how best to undermine the economic tyranny being subtly and not-so-subtly waged against citizens of the US as well as the rest of the world. Study post-WWII history very closely to chart the trend of grassroots disconnection from the many directions that America took once war had proven its worth as a meaningful economic fix and how people were collectively conditioned to support the deeds of their leaders; these deeds- these actions would provoke reactions of outrage if the like were instigated by a non-ally. I do not see much about the political structure here that could possibly inspire anything but the deepest pessimism- in no small part because by and large its subjects have been conditioned to not pay attention. According to Thomas Jefferson, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. We have proven him correct... we've stopped being vigilant and those in charge have taken full advantage- often enlisting factions of the public in assisting the denial of freedoms to another- because we're conditioned to be paranoid of one another- to be afraid that the dude down the street might be a sex offender- or that gangs might take over the neighborhood... or the back pack in the neighbors yard just might be a terrorist's bomb.... so we each dutifully take our ration of paranoia and become ever watchful over something that really poses no peril and create an attention vacuum to be taken advantage of. The greatest service anyone of any age can do for his/her fellow citizen is to keep an eye on what our elected criminals are doing in Washington... to establish the habit of researching ever single bit of legislation being debated and ensure that the local congressperson is keenly aware of the fact that their every move is being observed and disseminated among voters. The only other service we can do is to find a way to overthrow the government- or at very best to isolate it by getting as many of the 50 states as possible to dissolve the articles of confederation in order to dismantle the hopelessly corrupt and overrun by high income power addicted vermin- to thoroughly exterminate it of the infestation and to start over with a new constitution because the old one has barely enough integrity to be used to placate the masses but its relevance to current US policy is nonexistent due to the manner in which those charged with the job of protecting it have violated that trust. The current situation has gotten to the point that the cure will be more painful than the disease, but not applying the cure ASAP has far more dire consequences. People DO need to take ownership in the fate of their country- once they have taken it back from those who have grown obscenely wealthy by gambling with our way of life and using our armed forces to help ensure that they can continue to do so.
I concur. Forced military no, sort of. service in the US Coast Guard would be ok in my book. Two years in the USCG or civilian service in something like the CCC. I just barely missed getting drafted in 70-71 and enlisted in 73. To my way of thinking Viet Nam was the last bullshit war America was in before the War on Terrorism. Initially when we went to war against Iraq I was all right on lets kick ass. But surprisingly enough tho we won that war, why are we not enjoying the spoils with free oil therefore cheap ass gas?? Ten years later and we are smack dab in the middle of our second Viet Nam War. No telling when this war will end. Perhaps 12.12.2012 will give us an answer.
I have been alive long enough to have seen the Vietnam war, the invasion of Grenda, the first Gulph war, the Aghanistan war and the second Gulph war. That's 5 wars in just my life. As for supporting the troops. Wars start at home. They start with transnational corporations and business men that lobby government and influence or change public opinion in order to get policies, laws, etc passed. Laws and policies that allow transnational corporations to rape and piliage other nations and people. So if you want to support the troops, you bring the war criminals in this nation to justice. Just for your information, the war in Afghanistan has already been lost and won. I say lost because the war in Afghanistan has nothing to do with 9/11. I say won because it has everything to do with protecting the drug fields that the Taliban almost completly destroyed. Ronald Regan's "war on drugs" turned the ilegal international drug trade multi-billion dollar industry. Afghanistan is a primary producer of the hard narcotics that fuel that industry and production is now at record levels. Therefore as long as the dope is in Afghanistan. Our troops will stay in Afghanistan.
I would serve. I love my country and I love my people and if they need me to help defend them I will.
What? Man this is MY body, MY life.. the only thing I will ever own, and I prefer to give it to those who love me not to some politician trying to lower the price of gasoline! I'd take a bullet for Ghandi or Huxley, MLK or any one of my loved ones, I'd surely die to protect those who I love... but this... is not the way to do it. They are in no immediate danger.. it's a guise, a ruse if you will to lure us out and cast us into the sea of war. Surely Osama, Al-quida and the Taliban are evil throughout the world, surely they must be stopped... but the same people who created them are now trying to destroy them. Man send the president out to war! Send the politicians with m4's into the warzone, let them experience trauma and pain and suffering AND THEN I'll go and fight for them... if they are willing to die, then maybe I'll follow.. but not for these pigs. So then... with that being said, I owe society... I owe my country.. but not with my very life! There is no valhalla waiting for me, no heaven, no hell.. just life and I will not waste it in hate and revenge I'D RATHER DIE.
No one should be forced into military service. Not everyone is suited to that career nor is every personality type one that should be in the services.
Even with all the ugliness there is in this world, there is still beauty just hiding in plain sight. All you have to do is stop looking at the ugly and it will appear right before your eyes. So I'll let you in on a little secret about the reason why I love that loud old ugly and annoying bird my wife purchased before she died. My wife loved birds. She used to drag me to the park, the woods, camping, etc. Just so she could photograph and watch the birds. One day she came home with the ugliest parrot I had ever seen. Well, I really am not a fan of birds. However it made her happy and I had already lost every argument about birds that we had, so I wasn't going to pick another one. The thing is about 7 months later my wife passed away. But before she die, she had taught it how to say "I love you." (and other things but I only really pay attention to the "I love you.") I really don't like birds. But I still love my wife despite the fact she isn't here anymore. In some ways this bird is the greatest gift she ever gave me. So as I said it before and I'll say it again. Beauty is always right infront of your eyes. You just need to stop looking at the ugliness and it will magically appear.
