I had to drive my dog 120 miles to have ACL surgery few days ago. The population of the small city I had to go to is around 200,000. Well once I dropped her off I had six hours to kill. I went to the park to smoke and eat. I noticed 8 out of 10 people were overweight, out of shape. A few kids looked under 18 were heavy...one was a girl. The elderly walking their dogs looked waaaay out of shape. The next place I went was a place is go maybe once ever few years.....the mall. Why? Because I wanted some fucking ice cream (I can afford the calories) and I couldn't find it no where. Everyone in that mall was soooo over weight. What the fuck is going on. Don't people care for there health? Once you are 50lbs over weight don't you think its time to change some of your ways? In the six hours I wasted I saw maybe one or two ladies who were attractive since they didn't look like a seal. WHY ARE YOU LETTING YOURSELF AND 10 YEAR OLD EAT SO MUCH????? It is amazing to me how lazy and fat people have become. I'm not perfect but I do the best I can to take care of my health and not pop like a thanksgiving turkey. I forgot who it was, but a friend told me a year ago, i was too thin. I laughed at them. Is being in shape not the norm now? Oh and btw, at one point during the day I drove by Mc Donalds and the drive through lane was PACKED, too the damn parking lot.
Every time I go back to Scotland I am amazed at how big the population in general is becoming. There is supposed to be a recession so where the fuck are they getting the money to either over eat or eat in fast food restaurants?
Too much linguica? Man,it's the same here. I don't know how people can let themselves get so out of proportion. Sometimes when I see a pretty girl that weighs 250 or 300--I think--what if I kidnapped her ,put her in a comfortable cell and just gave her veggies, protein pills and water---why she'd love it when she got down to 130 or so. That's one of the weirdest thoughts I have--guess there are others---I just feel sorry that people make the choice to live that way.
I get shit all the time for being too thin. This overweight woman cornered me in a gas station the other day, looked me up and down, and said (in a mean tone, not flattering at all) "your stomach is so flat. You never had kids? Whatchu do, stomach crunches?" The words themselves sound neutral but its the way she said it. Its like, sorry that I'm an active person and try to eat healthy, lady. Sorry that my healthy lifestyle somehow offends you... Then I just wanted to tell her that it isn't that damn hard to have a flat stomach. You just have to get off your ass and move a little bit instead of stuffing your face all the time. Fat is the new norm. Skinny people are no longer accepted in society. Its completely backwards. Oh as for being in a recession while the fat get fatter, the sad fact of the matter is that unhealthy food is more affordable than healthy food.
maybe when fruits and veggies are cheaper than a damn DoubleStack at Wendy's something will change. maybe. and maybe when the western culture's thinking of work hard, play hard doesn't only see "work" as having a stressful job and "play" as having guilty pleasures and vices, maybe we'll change.
They (fruits-veggies) may be more expensive initially, but cheaper in the long run-if you see what I mean. Keep eating that grease and it's doctor, hospital and mortuary sooner rather than later.
Livestock fattened for pharmaceutical slaughter. It's way easier to maintain a healthy weight when good habits are established early and one makes it a point to be active but we're being conditioned to be a nation of sit-on-our-asses spectators with low grade poison for a food supply. It's a bit amusing to realize that at close to 48, I'm a cultural freak because I am not carrying any excess weight to speak of- hell I even have a discernible six pack. Funny how, in this culture of convenience foods and industrial processing that adds chemicals, sugars, colors, preservatives, and other borderline toxins along with the saturated fats, that the rise all manner of disorders are reported on an apparent premise that they are mostly idiopathic in nature when the causes can be read (albeit with some magnification) in the ingredients lists of the stuff on grocery shelves.... and that's not even considering hip and knee replacement industries which see this burgeoning weight problem as a cash "cow" as aging fatties are forcing their skeletal structures to bear more weight than they were designed to carry. I hope your dog made it through the surgery ok.
(side note)-the saying at the bottom of your posts is great--reminds me of what's said on auto side mirrors" objects in mirror are closer than they appear to be". My take-off on that, that I use once in a while is--"I'm much cuter than I appear to be". ----Ok --back to those with no will power---and how's the doggy?
I am amazed that we have become a country of marshmellers....Not funny either. Hope the dog made it thru ok, and they didn't feed her/he any big mac's....;-D
The dog is doing good. She is starting to get a little heavier since no exercise as well. Hopping on 3 legs is getting her back able one strong. When it comes to veggies being more expensive than fast food. I don't agree with that all the time. I have lived real close to fast food places where lots of poor ate off the dollar menu, and the coffee. Though I would have to say that the vast majority of people are just plain lazy and don't think about cooking. Certain ingredients are very expensive, but over time when come to collect a lot. Making your own simple breakfast or dinner is A LOT cheaper. + you might live longer. hehe.
You know every time I go to the grocery store it always blows my mind how produce is more than processed shit! I have to buy fucking canned vegetables because I can't afford fresh shit...I hate canned veggies they make me gag! This country is backwards!
it must be because i live in a college town. i was just thinking how good-looking people around here are.
Here is an example of a typical eve here on the farm....we had fresh organic salad, garbanzo bean, some fresh cheese and a slice of homemade bread for dinner, then we just got back from a three mile hike....not bad for nearly 60 yrs young, and I'm 5'9" 140 lbs......;-D But I'm still quite ugly....;-D
I was previously 110 lbs overweight zzz I wasn't overweight because of overeating, I was overweight because of hormones and the fact that I overcame anorexia with no nutritional guidance and on 'poor peoples junk food'. So, portion control was not, and has never been my problem.. I'm pretty sure it's the fact that my body is in starvation mode and all I can feed it is junk because it is only what we always have. After dropping from 240 to about 175, I was like fuck. Even though I lost weight unhealthily (GI problems, sometimes I ate less than a package of ramen in a single week), I'd really like to continue to lose weight and keep it off in a healthy way. It's EXTREMELY hard not to fall back into anorexia, old habits die hard. I've started using some old dumbbells I've got and walking on my tredmill, slowly discontinuing eating white breads/noodles and sodas, and I'm stopping at the produce market and getting plenty of good food for really cheap.. (I bought about 2lbs of red seedless grapes, a head of cauliflower, 5 lbs of potatoes, a bag of baby carrots and some mushrooms for $7.25, as opposed to paying probably $15-$20 at a supermarket). I bought these things because they're delicious (to me) and I know how to eat them.. it's sad when you look at a fruit/vegetable and think "how the fuck do I cook/eat that thing?" so I've been planning on doing some research (sad, I know) on recipies on cooking and eating healthier, cheaper, since shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables really is much cheaper if you buy from a farmers market. Feel free to PM me too if you've got something good to eat, I can buy pretty much anything from this place (Except pomegranites. )
Lots of people have health problems which can lead to weight gain and some people are just born really big. Though my guess the people I was talking about in the original post didn't look they had either. They looked like they ate far too much and didn't do shit of exercise.
I'll admit that I lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle, but if I didn't have health probs and take meds I'd probably just be one of those people who I'm jealous of who just sit around and eat all day and never really seem to gain weight. I wanna be that person! lol, but I think we all do
