Anyone who patronises a young person so openly either doesn't remember how much it sucked to be talked down to when they were 16, or they don't give a shit if they make someone feel bad when there was no need to. Even though you do realise how wrong you were when you were their age and conclude that most 16 year olds are probably the same, there's absolutely no point in saying it, because the person will still have a 16-year-old mind after. The only difference will be they'll feel shit and self-conscious. Stop being assholes to teenagers, and remember what it was like.
It's definitely a tell-tale sign when the 16 year old is more mature and civil than most of the 'adult' posters here.
Heaven forbid someone would need to defend an argument they made. Defending your own positions either furthers your convictions, are causes you to question them, which are both positive outcomes.
If the basis of a counter-argument is the person's age or gender or race or something that's pretty pathetic.
If a 16 year old manages to defend his argument without getting all protective, it shouldn't be too difficult for you.
Didn't two people poke fun of his youth out of like 110 responses? That's pretty civil for any debate in all honesty.
He never responded to my argument, I don't see why you use the term 'you'. He has a right to state his opinion and people have a right to call out the flaws they see in it. That's how debate works.
Fair enough. My idea of civil debate is not calling the other side 'lazy' and saying they're too young to understand.
I'm not sure who you're referring to, but the only thing I was trying to do was to get the guy to think critically by asking him to expand on his thoughts. The other person in here that everyone keeps referring to as talking down to the OP was doing the same thing. No matter what someone's age, they should be able to examine their arguments and thoughts and think them through completely.
lol please! I was walking 4 miles to school barefoot in the snow before your mother ever thought about your existence
You too? God, my childhood igloo must have been at least 4 kilometers from my one room school house. Thank god for sled dogs...
thank god indeed! In the great blizzard of 1918, the dogs lost their way while pulling me to the schoolhouse and saved my life by keeping me warm for 3 days and nights. are you......Santa Claus????
you go stash napt! haha you are completely right. But i suppose its because when the world lost its innocence people lost trust in mankind and began to be deceptive and jealous. People began to stake "claims" on nature, creating a reality of this imaginary dream of owning part of the earth. They forgot that this is our earth to share...
