hey, if ya could, read my lyrics and give me some feedback, i'm trying to finish lyrics for a bunch of songs, so the more honest and critical the better thank you ~Dan Like A Setting Sun… Sitting around I thought about all those days we used to worry about Getting caught and getting lost, we’ll do what’s right, yea fuck the cost In times of trouble things aren’t too clear, world’s are lost in the face of fear, but don’t worry about me, my dear Cuz if I ever have to run, run away from that smoking gun Know I’ll go out like a setting sun I’m coming down, I’m coming down, like a setting sun my rising has just begun…. Blinded by lies, they tore you apart Forgot yourself, you forgot your heart We grew up scared, but we grew up tall, never knew the world could make us feel so small We grew up lost, but we grew up gone, but now forever doesn’t seem so long Yea, we grew up side by side, allone we’ll never hide
The problem with judging lyrics is that they're meant to be listened to as part of a song and not just simply read. The emotion that the lyrics attempt to convey is multiplied by the music. Since I had no way of judging the music, I couldn't really judge the lyrics because I didn't have any way of knowing whether the two fit together. So I can't give you anything more than a "just ok". I have the same problem with my own posts because some of them are song lyrics and I have no way of fully conveying to the readers what I want to say. I mean, reading lyrics is just not the same as listening to a song, right? THere are things that words cannot say as clearly as notes.
And in music, melody is king. An inventive, imaginative melody can make a poor songwriter look like a genius. But it is nice to discover lyrics that will stand alone. Few musicians are able to do this.
I know. How many people can actually write something like "The Sound Of Silence"? Now that's something that can stand alone.
You're right. And your post illustrates something that really has come alive in the last two to three years. Classic rock and pop are really making a comeback. I think it has to do with the fact so many guys like me (and girls too) are fed up, pissed off and thoroughly turned off by rap and hiphop in general. And the alternative and rock guys just aren't producing quality like they should. Why aren't our musicians of the same calibre as thirty or forty years ago?
