"Hippie" is what folks call me when they don't have the time to hang around and find out what I really am. Most of those who do have the time call me "friend". I don't care what they call me, just as long as they don't call me Ishmael.
Fuck labels. What is so special about a label? It's just society recognizing you for something. And if you're "really" a hippy, you won't care what society does or says. Fuck society and fuck labels.
Nothing is special about a label, they're just very practical. Unless people forget that others (and you) never only are that label and sometimes not fitting the label applied to them at all. It's pretty evident but I say it anyway: thinking you have to be able to apply all characteristics of a hippie onto yourself in order to be a 'real hippie' or 'true' is ludicrous (I like that word ).
Hippies are free people to try and define the word hippie would completely defeat the point of the word 'hippie'. How could we be free if we have to conform to a stereotypical view? Not all hippies smoke weed, not all hippies refuse to shave, not all hippies are vegans, not all hippies have dreads... we're free, and to me, that is my personal definition of a hippie.
Too easy for old farts like me. How about hints for the younger set? Campbell Soup and Mr. and Mrs. Z's boy.
for all the railing being done about labels, i believe it cannot be avoided. however there is a difference between labeling and profiling. i can tell you what being a hippie means to me: laid-back, open-minded, politically active, spiritual, difference in dressing, acting and talking, (also, long hair, tie-dye, sandals, bandanas). i'm strongly dedicated to the preservation of my hippie heritage, not because i want to hide myself in the past, but because i believe i can apply what i learned back then to what is going on in my life today. peace, paisley skye.
a true hippy is a brother or sister that relates to nature and one that wouldnt harm a fly one that respects others rights and one that doesnt beleave in wars or the ways of bad goverment one thats peaceful and thinks with his hart these are some of the things of a true hippy
Yeah but hippies are free people too... I know people who have been free for their whole lives, free from men , oppression, money troubles... but they're not hippies
Well, Logan, I like the "label." I see a hippie as someone who isn't tied up in the corporate rat race, who wants to live closer to the Earth and basically strives to love all living beings. Now, if someone wants to slap a label on me in a society obsessed with labels, then that's the one I want. I'll take it and wear it proudly. That's who/what I strive to be. I AM A HIPPIE! P.S. You seriously need to relax!
