Hey guys, I don't know if this has been asked before but is it ok to use nutrogena extra strength coal tar shampoo to wash my dreads? whenever I used to get dandruff that stuff killed it immediately, and I get it again sometimes and I was just wondering if this shampoo is safe to use.

    Hold up.

Let just check the Dreadlock Shampoo Bible that every dreadhead is issued with.

It's all trial and error, evryones hair is different. Try it, if it wrks, it works, if it doesn't stop using it :)

I've been using it for about a week and it's doing great, I was just wondering if it had any conditioners in it because a few of my friends told me it looks like my dreads were "undreading". And my mind might be playing tricks on me but I kinda see it too. Does anybody know what ingredients I should look out for, like conditioner wise?

If you've backcombed, you're going to get some 'undreading' no matter what. It's part of the process of locking up.

I've T-Gelled for years. No conditioners in that puppy.
Stick it out for a month. That's usually how long a scalp takes to adjust to a new routine.

How often are you washing your head?

Yeah the hair coming undone a little is all part of the process. Don't stress about it. For some people a lot does, others only a little. It doesn't matter. Give it time and it'll all come back together ;)

I can't help ingredients wise though sorry. Good luck :D

Haha i love this post. i actually enjoy experimenting with different cleaners and who else is better to experiment on then yourself. You'll know after one wash if it works for you and one wash wont mess your dreads up. That's my theory.
