They're not all out to fucking get you! Jesus, stop being such a senseless ball of paranoia and THINK for a second. If it weren't for the amazing development of scientific study and rational thinking you'd either be dead or coughing up your own blood and covered in parasites, and you certainly wouldn't be sitting on your arse in a centrally heated or air conditioned house typing on a computer about how your doctor is such a bitch for giving you antibiotics for an ear infection. Next time you're tempted to whine about how how they put too much sugar in fruit juice or how sometimes scientists get things wrong, think about the immeasurable GOOD that has come from science, the thousands upon thousands of beneficial developments. Don't tell me "western medicine is evil, it's big pharma, just for profits, and it kills more than is saves." because guess what, you sound ill-informed, ungrateful and spoilt and like you lack an adequate number of brain cells. Don't tell me "it was all so much better before all this technology, I would go back if I could" unless you'd enjoy dying at the age of 40 after a life spent losing half of your children and watching cats burn for pleasure. Just stop being so fucking whiny about this incredible world we've made. Yes, we still have a hell of a long way to go. Yes, small errors and even big ones will be made. But objectively, when you come out of your hippy bubble and look at the whole picture, life in the west is a massive blessing, and it is thanks to those scientists, inventors and rationalists of the past and present. Think of what these countries were 300, 500, or even just 100 years ago. Be grateful for now. Be grateful that you can communicate with someone on the other side of the world within a few seconds. Be grateful that you are well nourished, your brain can be entertained and fed by countless stimuli with the click of a mouse or button. Be grateful that if you were to get a bacterial infection tomorrow it probably wouldn't kill you, and that millions of people out there are working on cures for AIDS and cancer. There are obvious faults with some scientific procedures, chemicals etc. Yet it astounds me that they are picked up again and again and the whole field of development is attacked frequently by supposedly free-thinking and progressive people, even demonised...because when you look at the big picture, the benefits far outweigh the faults. Science isn't a demon. Rationality doesn't mean closed-mindedness. Employing some common sense doesn't make the world more dull. Oh, and the government probably isn't trying to kill you with poison contrails.
Common sense must be applied on both sides of the fence. I agree with you for the most part but I also agree with people that see through the benefits to the corruption. The desire to change things for the better is what drives the human race. Its possible to be grateful for our beneficial advancements while still wishing to change the negative aspects.
Neither is medicine such a hero, medicine does not in fact save lives. Up to now, it can help relative comfort. So can a candy bar by the way.
Sadly, I tend to believe in many of the same principals that Ghandi did. To be blunt, I would rather sit making simple "home spun" cloth instead of living in this "wonderful technical world" . Sadly, when I was young I fell into the trap. Now like the majority of the rest of you, I'm stuck playing the "game." ------- V.O.T.
Nice, when the White man didnt give it to the native Americans, used Small pox as a biological warfare agent.. and you were saying?...
Which person did not die? Medicine does help to make comfortable. Just saying that reverence for these things can be out of proportion. Small pox is a painful horrible disease, but the end of small pox at large, has not ended painful horrible disease.
They're not all out to get us, you are correct. But they also aren't all out to help us. Like everything else, the truth is not so black and white, and more likely a shade of grey. If you rail against those who rail against something you don't think deserves the scrutiny and judgments that land on it, how are you behaving any differently? Your words. My mirror.
modern medicine has created some diseases, in fact. Overuse of antibiotics, for example, leads to antibiotic-resistent superbugs. Hand sanitizer and frequent washing of hands does the same thing. A dependence on modern medicine can lead to an undeveloped immune system. I don't really think the OP is taking into consideration the fact that the majority of medications on the market are to mask symptoms rather than offer a cure. A healthy lifestyle and peace of mind can do more in the long run for health than modern medicine. Advancements in healthcare has led to increased life spans, but in the end modern medicine is not our savior and should not be treated as such.
The majority of medical professionals are out to help you and are making the most educated, ethical choice they know how to make. Not saying they are angels, but they are just like everyone else.
I totally agree when we're talking about actual medical professionals: doctors, nurses, paramedics, emts, surgical techs, et cetera. But if we start talking about pharmaceutical companies... educated might still be in the discussion, but I sincerely doubt ethical would have a place.
That's why we have pharmacists. They aren't there to give you drugs but to stop you from being given drugs by the pharmaceutical companies.
yeah, pharmacists don't do this. I worked at a pharmacy for a while. Pharmacists get paid a shitload of money. If they frequently prevented excessive overprescribing, they wouldn't get paid a shitload of money. the only reason they ever stop a patient from taking a drug is if theres an allergy or contradiction with another drug present. I saw so many instances where a pharmacist would look at a prescription, say something like "wow, thats a high dose," or "why is this patient on this drug?" then shrug and sign off on it without another thought.
The small pox vaccine still prevented many people from contracting and dying of smallpox & therefore did save lives, that's all I was saying. Witholding the vaccine from the Native Americans was a shameful & inexcusable act, but is an entirely separate issue. You fucking nobhead.
All the people who would otherwise have died of smallpox had it not been for the vaccine. Not difficult is it? As for the rest of your post - Just fucking gibberish, really. The dpoe - About right, I reckon.
I have to disagree. Pharmacists don't have a say in what drugs you are prescribed, they simply fill prescriptions. The doctor makes the decision of what drugs you will or will not be receiving. In that, the pharmacists job is in fact to give you drugs.
Those people died dear. That they did not die of small pox is beside the point. Every single one died. Not difficult is it? The dpoe is gibberish I reckon. doesn't spell anything I am familiar with.
The alternative system is the doctor or pharma company giving you the medication directly. The pharmacy is a checkpoint, all the meds are locked up there with no access except through proper medical procedure. It would be much worse without them, codeine painkillers and cough medicine sold in supermarkets and doctors giving several months worth of oxycontin and ritalin tablets to patients, and companies advertising their crap for any ailment to the gullible public.
This isn't happening as we speak? Disclaimer: reading this post may result in one or more of the following conditions: diarrhea, vomiting, loss of sleep, dry mouth, self reflection, frustration, and is known to the State of California to cause cancer.
I've got news for you. Vaccines have not saved any more lives than doctors where able to the century before we had them. In the past, doctors used different technics to prevent disease and fight epidemics. Doctors of the late 19th century had focused the role of living conditions and transmission of disease instead of antibiotics and treatment of symptoms. In the case of epidemics, doctors acted more like detectives in an attempt to isolate and contain the source of contagion and its spread. As it had be stated by many medical professionals before W.H.O. during the H1N1 pandemic. "We could have saved millions of dollars and perhaps many lives had we just applied more of the ancient medial practices instead of trying to vacinate the world." Today's doctors focus less prevention and living conditions than they do on treatment. They don't look at a man that's 80lbs overweight and help him correct the way he lives his life. (This can be considered "living conditions") Instead, today's doctors are only too happy to perform hart surgery or make money of endless treatments. And this methodology has disasterous results for the world. A good example is we have an antibiotic crises facing the world today. Bacterial resistance is on the lips of almost every doctor today. It has been years of pushing pills for each infection possible that leaving us with fewer and fewer antibiotic opitions for fighting them. It is estimated that in the next 10 years we will run out of antibiotics capable of tacking super bacterial strains. In the end, Technology is only a tool and it can never be a solution. -------- V.O.T.
