the other day I finally made the jump and I am living without a car. It has been a week so far, and I haven't really found life to be too difficult. the only problem I have is everyone thinks I am crazy :S whats so crazy about saving tonnes of money, and not polluting! my car was small, but still 10 litres of gas is way more than 10 litres of pollution when its burned! I'm not really posting for any reason beside I wanted positive support from my online hippie buddies (thats you) blessed be
What are you gonna do on like christmas time when you have to buy a bunch of shit from places far away, such as food? Trek a zillion miles on a zillion trips? Having a car is necessary, you just don't always have to use it..
yeah, as long as you are happy w/ out a car, def. good for your wallet and good for the environment no worries about tickets or car accidents you can still use car coop's (if they've gottem' near you) or rentals when you need to rock on with your auto-free self
fuck yeah good for you!!! how far you are biking to work and stuff? what about groceries? sorry i'm curious! Perhaps in the city its different, though the largest city around here can be deadly for cyclists. and what about the winter, i see your in Canada, eh? any way congratulations, Gaia appreciates it!! they think your crazy? i guess i can see it, but i am friends with some people who many others might consider. For instance I knew a guy who for his junior and senior of year of college lived in his car which was parked at a YMCA. another good friend literally lived in the woods for one year freshman year. it was a tiny campus (best times of my life, well idk about that anymore, but it made me who i am) and a friendly, open-minded student body for the most part. Anyway, who cares what other people think, just do you! Plus it's a fanfuckingtastic life decision to make :sunny: :2thumbsup:
I live in a small port town, so everything is very close. my grocery store is 6 blocks from my house, and my work is about 10 blocks I usually longboard for my commute I eat a mostly vegan diet, so I buy my food in smaller amounts more often
i would love to get rid of my car and ride my bike everywhere. i live in a more rural area though so i kind of need it so that im not riding the tour de france everyday to school
That's cool and all, but I don't think it's a bad thing to have a car, and have it in running order for when you need it, be it ONLY for emergencies, or every week. If everyone drove in a responsible way, a responsible amount, we'd have the oil for HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of years, with no problems in sight. But most people are stupid greedy lazy shits.
Gas prices going up, insurance premiums going up, registration going up... Got rid of my car, and now I could pay cash for a new car. Ironic, isn't it.....
If you like cars on drugs that you shouldn't be driving on, you would LOVE a proper thousand foot decent on a 5+% grade on a road bike. Moar turns, the better, too
awesome, you're lucky to live in a town where having a car isn't neccessary. Where I live everything is so damn spread out that its just not practical to not have a car.
Yeah? cool thanks for the tip, but I am more a car kinda dude. Probably will get a street bike some day though for sure. Can't go wrong getting more fun/experience/girls And for the record, yeah sometimes I drive on drugs, but don't wanna make a big deal about it. 90% of the time I drive I am pretty sober.
The majority of the country is rural areas. In those areas, not having transportation is much less than inconvenient. Although, many of the Amish people seem to do well without one. Do they have to carry insurance on their horses and buggies?
the car lover got rid of his car? wow, but damn dude, go for it! must be liberating. i miss ya bud! post more or somethin.
cool! i have always liked living without a car... it is great to get in real tight with your neighborhood, to become a part of it, infuse yourself...
agreed! I'm toolazy to stick with it, so losing the car is a great thing for me nope, just different topic, maybe :S cars are really really fun!!!! but bad, lol! like potato chips, tastey, but bad for years! wow! thanks you! I like having clean air!
I miss you too buddy! I got rid of my cell phone, trying to live less consumerish, thats why I haven't been on aim! giving up my car, was a very very hard choice, but I just realised I don't need it... so, its gone! I had it recycled! and yes, liberating! I feel so free! its strange how when I first got the car I felt free...I think it's a false freedom... I was free to stay on a road, and drive how the rules say...thats not free at all! (yeah I'm a crazy driver!)
