    Who all, on here, journals?

How often do you journal? When did you start and why?

I started when I was about 12. Maybe a little before. My family had started going to counseling because our therapist thoughts it would help me sort things out better. She was right.
I started journaling every day then and still do to this day. I even carry around a small thin notebook in my purse with me so I can journal anytime I feel the need to. Usually I will take my entries out and insert them into my main journal (a large leather one that is totally beautiful). I like keeping a big one so I can put whatever I want in them. The one I have now is loaded with artwork, notes, random thoughts, pictures, tickets, cards, even a bulletin from a wedding.

Although, there are months and years at a time which I have not journaled at all. I've discovered that I'm much more level headed and myself when I can get things out on paper.
I also like to keep a blog online just scratching the surface of things going on in my life, mainly for outside advice.

But I wish to discuss this with fellow journalers. Why do you journal? Do you keep your journals? Do you ever look back on them?

  2. I only journal to keep note of very basic stuff like when I cleaned the windows, bought tobacco, first trip to the beach this year - stuff I don't do on a daily basis. I also keep note of the daily dinner menu so I don't repeat meals very often. How sad is that? I blog here because I like it, no other reason.

    :2thumbsup: nothing wrong with that.
I simply feel more stable when I do. I've been told by various therapists that I could have this emotional disorder, or could have that. The only thing they've all agreed on is the fact that I get severe anxiety. That all seems to go away when I write on a fairly regular basis.

  4. Well keep at it girl. It's obviously therapeutic!

I'm an avid journaler. I have a whole ritual where I decorate and label pages in my journal. I don't write every day...I usually go on spurts of writing non-stop then stop writing for a few weeks/months then pick up right where I left off.

I've made some of the best self-discoveries while journaling

Same here, for sure. I don't decorate or draw on every page, nor do I post everything from every event I go to, but I enjoy adding it where I feel it's necessary.

I started one up many months ago, but I haven't written in a while just cause I'm so damn lazy. I felt alot better and calm after I did it, like you said. I really should pick it up again, it was actually pretty funny and insightful at times (at least I thought so)

I'm writing a book on journaling and have a blog about it. Check out my blog at http:holisticjournaling.blogspot.com. I'm totally into journaling. I also have a free download template that works with Word if you want to try out Holistic Journaling. I'd be glad to hear from you what you think of it.

a friend of mine keeps a calendar on the wall with appointments and anything else she or hubby needs to do. keeps them straight in their doings. i started doing that a couple years ago...i had tried to journal, and was not disciplined at it. it dawned on me last year that the calendar on my wall is my journal....so i started keeping the calendars. amazing what last year's reveals about my life...it's a journal by any name.
