Wow.... this is terrible news. Fucking Republicans need to ruin everything for everyone, don't they? They just want to turn internet into tv... pay extra to see this site, extra to see that. Oh, we don't want out customers looking at that, lets block it. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! If I were an American citizen I would be livid.
Not to mention them potentially being able to control bandwidth. Google? Lightning speed. Hipforums? That's some privately owned site; 56k. Advertisements in between every refresh!
I just hope Canada doesn't follow in your footsteps... although I have a feeling if Harper gets elected again, we'll be headed there in no time.
Well, our porn is being fiddled with by our government. And all the Americans were like SUX2BINAUSTRALIA. Good ol pendulums promise. What goes around comes around.
perhaps an effective protest would be for everyone to switch back to dialup since high-speed access will no longer be guaranteed anyways . . . and you can save money at the same time!
I think that has been demonstrated in the Middle East, Egypt in particular when broadband was totally shutdown. They were able to stay connected only through dialup. But the next time I am pretty sure that's not going to work either. Makes one wonder why the push to go completely digital instead of analog with the tv airwaves. It's now possible to blacken every tv in the nation with no real alternatives. Because the giants that now own those airwaves are also those that control broadband, but also many times they also control the phone lines. So that's not the ultimate option. http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2011/01/28/f-egypt-web-blackout.html
Based on connecting how? Nothing is publically owned or governed any longer. Everything is controlled by a private entity. Only personal, individual contact is outside possible organized control. And even then we allow ourselves to be controlled.
I think our point was when mildly crazy conservative politicians are elected by your democratically sovereign government, it's not our right to interfere. Fortunately it can't pass the Senate in the States.
