About two weeks ago, maybe a little longer, my dog hurt her back right leg. I didn't notice her get hurt, nor did anyone else. One day she was lying in the living room and we she went to get up she had a limp. It was harder to push herself up. She was, and still doesn't cleaning herself, trying to scratch or anything, as if she were hurt. Well I though nothing of it at first. But now its still bothering her. If she walks around the house for 5 minutes strait, or I take her outside for a walk or to play, it goes away. Its only when she then comes inside or lies down outside for i'd say at least 15 minutes, that when she tries to get back up it hurts, well I can't even tell if she is in pain. I've felt her leg and inner thigh all over and she doesn't react to anything, not on the bottom of her paws, nothing. She is a pitbull so its very easy to tell if even a small scratch is on her, I can't see anything. My mom thinks she has a hernia, but I can't feel or tell if its anything. Im guessing she pulled a muscle of some kind, but im surprised that it hasn't gone away by now. She is almost 17 months old.
Sorry to hear that about your dog, broony--I hope there's nothing serious wrong with her! I was going to say that it could be arthritis, but then I saw how old she is, and I thought "Maybe not!" I'd take her to the vet and have her checked out, though--that way you'll know for sure what it is!
The only thing that occurs to me, and I surely hope this isn't it...is that your dog may have been bitten by a spider and that is what is hurting her leg. You are right in that since she is a pit you could tell if she had been "hurt" - in the "traditional way" one thinks of getting hurt. Please let us know what's up. Like people, some of us have arthritis or those type symptoms well before science thinks we should.
Well she ended up hurting her knee, pretty sure. The vet is looking at the x-rays now. I don't think she broke a bone, so right now its starting to look like a acl tear. We are not 100% but chances are she will need to have surgery regardless. I can't stand seeing her with a weak leg. She is a tough one, she will recover. =)
i'm sorry to hear that your baby is ill. i have no ideal what is wrong with her. a friend of mine, had a dog, that had something simular to what your dog is going through. in her dogs' case it was cancer... i hope your baby, has not come down with anything like that! i'm afraid your just going to have to wait for the vets report before you'll have any answers. i'm hoping for the best for you both!
