Someone close to me has been on a practical quick. It is annoying. They are always like "gotta be practical"/"must be rational/" blah blah.

But like anything else, like emotions, can't it get to be a little too much? Over done?

How do you kind of convince someone that they are being overly practical? Or show them that it is not, like, the only thing you need.

    Can someone be too practical?

Yes, someone can be to practical. I have family that are like that. It drives me crazy!! They think to much into things. No matter what it is. I mean don't get me wrong its fine to be practical, but Don't think so much into something that it starts to get annoying. Just my option though.

Some people don't know how to relax and have fun. That's when it's "too practical".

Like a person who lacks a sense of humor, or who always criticizes things as being "stupid".

    Have fun.

Make some money along the way. It helps a lot.

I abandoned practicality long ago for the sake of spontaneity.

When I tried living a practical life I sabotaged my own plans. Since that day, I've been Forrest Gumping my way thorough life, and everything's turning up team Spencer.

You show them by becoming a living example of the antithesis. Start drinking too much, gambling away your last dollar under the assumption that you'll win it back. Only pay the rent when the landlord threatens to kick you out. Eat pizza at 2:00 am and don't lock your front door. End every argument with, "fuck it anyways," and talk loud over top of people when they try to talk reasonably. Show up late for work all the time and don't care when your boss gets pissed off. Wear really inappropriate clothing, in public and at work and stop bathing for weeks at a time.

You can't convince anyone of anything that they're not ready to see for themselves.

    On the other hand...

If there wasn't a stigma of being simple and kind of dumb with being practical I'd be all over it by gawd.

Its good to have a good head on your shoulders and a little common sense never hurt anyone, but too much practicality gets in the way of imagination, and a person without imagination is very boring indeed

Being practical does not mean not having an imagination.

It also doesn't mean you don't have a sense of humor.

Without the practical people of the world, the rest would still be living as cavemen... because it is way too practical to think about tomorrow and make plans to put yourself in a better position then you were today... Much better to float through life with no plan and trust to god (fate, chance, luck or whatever you want to attribute it to) and not do anything for tomorrow.

That computer (or phone) that you are reading this on, was created out of practicality... There are many many many ideas and concepts that are interesting and could do amazing things for us as a species... unfortunately, those ideas and concepts are in the heads of people who beleive practicality isn't nearly as important as going with the flow.

Oh... and if you need a poster child for all the things you described about practical people... no humor, no imagination etc etc... feel free to point to me and say, see, look what an asshole being practical makes you.

It won't bother me as I eat the food that I raised because I am practical while sitting in the home that being practical got me... It also won't bother me as I spend time with friends and family, smoke weed, listen to music, watch movies, read books, IMAGINE wonderful creations that are PRACTICAL in my life, or laugh my ass off at the people who are always on the verge of starving, bragging about how non-practical they are.

    :)

I'm rather practical, but I do have family that is too practical and I can't stand being around them. Not only are the too practical, but they are all co-dependent on my grandparents who are also extremely practical. Its an awful practical web.

I enjoy spontaneity, too, though...I'm only practical when it comes to my job and my "Monday through Friday" routine.

You're much better than some, not as good as others,,

,,and probably annoying as heck in person.

    But you made your point.

Most people would agree. Thankfully, I'm not a politician and don't base my life on the opinions of others... (part of that practicality thing again I suppose)

Being practical is great...gotta say though, I sure have enjoyed the majority of my impractical decisions and their unexpected consequences. I can see the value and comfort of practical life but I've always had a tooth for chaos. There's just somethin' about a complete cluster-fuck thats irresistible.

That's a lot of schadenfreude for someone not bothered by others impracticality.

I'm live well, have a patent in my name, and am importing TCCA for water purification at cost to provinces in Cambodia. Your life isn't for everyone tiger. ;)

Learn to read... Show me one place where I said I wasn't bothered by others impracticality.

Once you discover you can't, because I didnt say any such thing, crawl back under your rock and go make false accusations against someone else.
