democrats as socialists

i find it hilarious that many americans see the democrats as socialists, or funnier yet....communists.
it is glaringly apparent that most americans ave no idea what socialism is....but they know it's bad...

 

I think this is largely a result of right wing propaganda that has tended to dominate the airwaves since the Reagan years. That's when the fairness doctrine was rescinded, and people like "Limbug" started being programmed everywhere.

 

a lot of americans truly have no clue what socialism is, and I agree that its a result of right wing propaganda. People think that because communism is bad, as everyone that went through the public school system was more than likely taught, that socialism is therefore bad by association. These same people rarely care about researching on their own and finding statistical information regarding socialist nations and they assume that these nations must be failing economically and socially without actually doing any credible research.

 

Communism in itself is not bad, but the indoctrination machine has taught the majority to fear it due to the fake Communist regimes in the USSR, North Korea, Cuba, etc using the banner to gain support from the people through their own propaganda before installing systems that don't in the slightest resemble Communism.

 

I completely agree with you. I think it just goes to show how ignorant people are and how right wing politics is all about propoganda and spreading fear and ignorance, in my opinion. In school (when you actually take a class in US government) they teach that there are three kinds of government : domocratic, socialist and communist. The interesting thing is that it's not just Americans who think communism and socialism are the same....a lot of people think that in other countries as well. And if you say anything about socialism people are like "Oh my god socialism..." when they dont even really know what it is or because they have simply learned that its a bad thing.

From a Canadian point of view, the democrats aren't socialist at all. Our conservative party is about as liberal as your democrat party.

Its unfortunate that "socialist" and communist" are still dirty words in America, I think the reason why people dont trust the government as much in America as they do in Canada is because the people have been fucked over by the government alot more in the states than here.

Think about it; Nixon, Reagan, and Bush. If they were leaders of my country, id be suspicious of the government too.

People think Obama's a socialist because of the rhetoric of Glenn Beck and the Christian right. Glenn Beck once described one of Obama's policies as a "tsarist-communist plot", which is a total paradox.

Anyways, everything Glenn Beck will say will always make me laugh because there's nothing funnier than an alcholic mormon.

 

the two-party systemis what we have now--democrats and republicans. there are "progressive democrats" and there are "reactionary republicans". but it's still the same old system --hell, it's been around a long time.real socialists would never allow themselves to support such a corrupt system. so i'm going to try to explain it as simply as i can: you have a line in front of you; the middle is, well the middle is the middle of the paper;to your left starts to go and stops an inch-- that's the democrats; half ways down from there to the left--progressives(still within the system);half-ways down from there, we have the socialists. o, and the president? he ran on a platform of his progressive politics. look at him--we would probably be more accurate by calling him a moderate or in some instances conservative. paisley skye.

 

the problem is that people don't stop to think that socialism would do the world a lot of good. then what baffles me is that they'll tell me that capitalism is a great system! they don't open their eyes to realize the corruption and evil in capitalism that is all around them. it's truly sad.

I'm sure you've heard of PBS; the Public Broadcast System and NPR; National Public Radio. It would be just dandy if Amerika was inhabited wholly by brain dead politically correct ignoramuses who do not grasp the concept of good COMMON SENSE. Unfortunately for this lot Amerika has a pleasant mix of folks that were/are being raised with common sense. They also do not find it difficult to treat strangers in a civil manner WITHOUT going to the EXTREME of the bullshit of political correctness.

Have either of you EVER heard anything right wing come out of either of these 2 broadcasters? Of course I mean something nice that they might have said about conservatives or right wingers or Tea Party types? I think not. Since at least 1995 I've heard nothing nice about folks that are not liberals or democrats. I HAVE HEARD a lot of vile things said about conservatives and Libertarians and Constitutionalists on both of these networks. What really irks me is that some of my tax dollars partially fund these yahoos. I mean after all if they were to be fair PBS and NPR should present BOTH SIDES on all issues concerning Joe Sixpack and Moonbeam Starr. Wouldn't you agree?

If you really want to hear some propaganda sometime you should try pretending you're an American Flag waving conservative anti abortion chaw in your gums deer hunting redneck and see how you like being badmouthed by these goody two shoes riff raff.
And the one thing that probably sticks in my craw the most is how it is perfectly all right for liberal types to badmouth all that they disapprove or disagree with but if conservatives voice their opinions we are all intolerant bigots or racists.

Take Austria for example: the head of the socialist party there during the 70s was a jew, his replacement a half jew, several ministers jews/half jews.
They run the country in the ground and are still under control of the socialists, broke, deep in debth, loss of freedom, very high taxes and nothing to show for!

The term " Socialism" is a bit overdone, but those perceptions are on to something.

Democrats today represent the spending coalitions in our electorate.

The Democratic Party is a sort of clearinghouse for pressure groups who want to secure a funding stream from the Gov.

Its no propoganda, that The US is running a deficit.

People who are concerned about a Gov default do not have to be homophobes or racists.

Both democrats and republicans are capitalist. It's just that in comparison to the republicans the dems are for a more regulated brand of capitalism and republicans are for a less regulated brand basically.
