You know, when you post something in one section it pops up in the new posts section for everyone to read, and it isn't necessary for you to spam zzz

Apologies never realised, its not Spam its trying to get feedback for a young lad that has done everything on a shoe string.

No big budget no record deal just someone trying to break into the music biz, without going down the X Factor cheap nasty tv route.

I can see the Morrissey thing, but no. This is commercial trash.

Look around, there are lot's of really great indie bands making great music these days, way better than this.

The pains of being pure at heart's lead singer sounds a bit like Morrissey I think, but in an annoying way. I like their albums though.

I think its all about how you define/class as indie....in the 80's i was lead singer in a so called indie band....we had records etc,did some great gigs, fans of our band were Pulp. In the day Pulp were indie but are you or would you now class them as mainstream.

Thing that puzzles me is this 'indie' label tag as if to say 'indie bands don't want to be mainstream,i think you'll find they'd give their right arm to be more popular and mainstream.

ps Are Muse Indie? or Mainstream?

Muse are mainstream indie. I don't rate them much at all.

The thing about alternative music is it always ends up becoming mainstream. The kind of stuff some might consider mainstream has it's roots in death metal that I used to listen to in the early 90's, I would never have thought back then that bands making this kind of noise would get to number one, or have thousands of teenage girls wearing t-shirts and listening to this kind of music.

Indie means independent, which is what a lot of the original bands that have defined the "indie" sound were. A lot of them still are.

I really dig the latest indie/shoegazing/synth rock revival that is going on at the moment, there a LOT of great new bands around if you look. The more I look, the more I am finding. I think I have discovered more mew music in the past couple of years than in my whole life, thanks to modern technology and the fact that there are more people in the world.

I don't dig this Ivor dude much at all though, sorry.

Good post Mcleod and a good read. I agree with most of what you say. In the 80's we were electro/punk and classed Indie. We had our own label and were distributed by the great Red Rhino records. At the same time my cousins band started off Punk/Indie the Skids then became mainstream with numerous top of the pops appearances.

When the band finished Richard formed the Armoury Show who then were classed as Indie. He was not now Mainstream and never appeared on Top of the Pops again.

Didhe prefer Indie or did he prefer Mainstream i know he knows which period was more succsessful.

Cool. Nice to hear from a new member who was in an 80's electro punk outfit. You earned a rep for that. :D

Post some of your stuff up I'd like to hear. We are DE-VO

As well as discovering lots of great new indie band I am also discovering a lot of old ones too. My friend used to have his own record shop years ago and converted a lot of rare vynil stuff onto mp3, which I have copies of and am slowly working though...

Never heard of the red rhino label but I'm sure I've heard some of their music. I had limited exposure to alternative music when I was younger. Thank the music gods for the John Peel show.

There aren't enough hours in the day to check out the music that is coming out these days, or sadly enough weed. I'm just grateful that I have the internet and no job though. I've walked out of jobs in the past for being told I can't listen to my iPod while working.

Great stuff, very industrial goth sounding. You guys split up 30 years ago?

I never really got really into music until I was about 15. My parent's ie. my mum and my gran were quite conservative and never let me watch top of the tops, so I never paid much attention to anything outside of the mainstream until about 1988. It's no wonder I turned into such a rebel. I remember I used to like Gary Numan but that was based on seeing him on TV once in 1982 or something. One of the first albums I ever bought was Nik Kershaw, and all the songs on it apart from Dancing Girls and Wouldn't it Be Good were shit.

You say Pulp were a fan of you though? I recently found out that they have been going since 1975! I never really liked their stuff much in the 90's or the britpop scene, things have got better since those days.

Anyway, cheers for sharing. I will look further but I'm on mobile BB and my allowance is running out for the month. I'm going to resume watching The Kid's Are All Right now, a new comedy drama from California, but I have to stop watching it every 15 minutes so I can check my email and because it's pissing me off that the weather is not like that like here, or the weed.

No worries. 1985 sounds a little more feasible by the styles and that.

Lots of 80's bands are reforming these days. Blancmange have a new album out, which hopefully will be less disappointing than Devo's..

Would be great to see some of them play live. they had an 80's festival a few years ago when I was living in Nijmegen, it was miles away in germany though. Didn't go like but they had Kim Wilde, Nik Kershaw, I can't remember really OMD maybe..

It was a great era. It's like the new 60's in a way. I think music goes through a 20 year cycle. I think we are going to get a rave revival in the coming years. I hope the 80's thing continues as well. A good thing never goes out of fashion.
