What would you say the top ten would be (in terms of songs):

For me, it would go like this:

    1) The Musical Box
    2) The Lamia
    3) The Cinema Show
    4) Supper's Ready
    5) I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
    6) Firth of Frith
    7) The Carpet Crawlers
    8) Dancing with the Moonlit Knight
    9) The Knife
    10) Get 'Em Out by Friday

Your list is pretty much the way I feel, only I'd rearange a bit. Supper's Ready, The Musical Box, Dancing With the Moonlit Knight, and Firth of Fifth are my all time favorites. Harold the Barrel is pretty sweet too.

I'm just getting into Genesis. I heard Selling England By The Pound for the first time and I effing love it. It's exactly my type of music.

What stuff by them should I check out?

give The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway a try next!

I don't know enough of Genesis to have ten favorites, but "Dancing With the Moonlit Knight" is definitely my first fave.

I discovered Genesis this summer. What can I say? "wow" doesn't quite capture it. I feel like all these bands I've been listening to like yes, rush, king crimson etc . . . like I've discovered their older, more mature brother. What a haunting and beautiful group.

All the songs listed here are to die for.

That's how I feel. I've never heard anything like this. It's possibly the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

Genesis Live 1973 was probably one of the first albums I ever bought. Love the Musical Box, The Knife, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, etc. For a great early Genesis video, check this out..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W35wtfcByIY

Suppers Ready is a masterpiece. Selling England by the Pound the best album.

I'd have to sit down and listen to them all to come up with a top ten list, but I don't need to listen to put down my #1

    Supper's Ready!!

Perhaps one of the best songs ever.

There are some great bootlegs out there.
    I have a ton-all excellent.
There's a really good one that has Peter making fun of Phil Collins. Funny shit.

The only real issue with some of the boots is that since Peter was always wearing costumes with masks, his voice is muffled a lot. Too bad

I'd recommend anyone who likes this genre to start listening to them.
I would leave The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway until last-it's sometimes hard to put away lol.

It's okay for the first couple of albums since they were originally so cheaply recorded at the time. But Foxtrot and after, no real improvements. Maybe some very minor clarification on a few guitar notes that were a little buried in the original mixes...if that.

I highly suggest the box sets if you have extra money. They are good remasters first-off. Then the extra tracks are interesting and some are genuinely up to par with their album work (more so on the 1976-1982 set), and the DVD extras are fantastic. No need for poor quality YouTube versions anymore.
