Response/Reactions From Non-Dreadheads

Are you always polite and conscientious when informing the ignorant or do you let them have it?
A few days ago I was having a particularly bad day when this douche bag approaches me and asked, "why do you have dreads?" I gave him a blank stare and said, "You know, I'm not sure. It must've been from not bathing and living in the forest". Anyone else have similar experiences?

 

I have had experiences if its from someone just curious ill be straight up but if the persons just being an ass ill be really sarcastic.

 

No one really talks to me about them. When I moved to my town, I had a few questions but you can't be a **** when there are only 250 people in the town and you're new ad the next town over is five miles away. But then again, I don't act like I'm some dreadlocked Martyr.

 

It depends who is asking the question and how they ask it. If they are a **** about it, I'll be a **** back. If they are nice, I'll be nice.

 

I always meet this one guy at a party, he used to have dreadlocks, so he always bring them up, and i swear everytime, EVERYTIME, he says

"Aahh those dreads are looking good bro! You musta go gone done get them retouched at a salon bro"

I explain to him every time that i don't get them touched up or anything done to them.. But i know this weekend.. I'll see him and he'll say it again.. Looking forward to it!

 

When I had my dreads I never had any insults.
But then again no one could see my dreads because of the white pointy hat I wore

A guy from worked saw my hair and said "What's with the dreads?"
Not sure what I thought about that

 

Ask him "whats with the face?"

 

i get weird looks but that's probably because they're still not really dreads, just a big mess on my head.
with my last set a little girl told me they looked like cat poop. i laughed.
other than that people either don't say anything or ask questions, and are usually pretty stoked when i take a minute to answer them.

 

Honestly most people don't say anything to me. I did have one person ask if I had neglect dreads, he said his friend does and he was just curious. I was polite to him though as he wasn't a **** about it. Only those who I'm friends with have commented and that's just to say they like how they're coming.

*shrugs*

But if someone was a dick to me about my dreads I would smile sweetly. Seriously. Unless I'm in a really bad mood that is. Then I would be a dick back.

 

I've only gotten one or two negative responses.

One was last Friday, I was at a show, innebriated at a dangerous level. The two scallywags decide to push their way to the front of the stage and then.....invade my personal space. I could feel my hair smack them a few times, and then finally, "stooooop! Yea stop hitting us with your hair!"

I really had to focus to respond but I mustered up a polite, "Bitch Im drunk!!"

Nothing more was/needed to be said. And then I went back to dancing the night away.

Usually people are just curious cause they've heard so many bullshit myths.

 

Today someone passed my desk and called me a nutter.
I assume it's because I was solving my 7x7x7 cube, so I welcomed it

 

how is this person a "douche bag" for asking a question? part of having locks is understanding the fact that most people don't know a lot about them. it's an opportunity to teach someone something. it's also an opportunity to give dreadies a good name.

 

I quite agree.

"why do you have dreads" is a pretty straitforward question, and one that you should be able to answer, even if you have many answers, or a long answer.

It sounds like they may have had a more rude opinion of the OP, but contained it to that question for civilities sake.

Now that person saw what an asshole the OP is about such a simple question, and that's their opinion of people with locks.
