Most people know if there calling from an unknown number, the person isn't gonna pick up. It's fucking 2011. If ur trying to remain anonymous I don't wanna speak to u anyway. Other than that, it's some telemarketer tryna sell me something. Not worth my time tbh.
Same here. But my brother knows this, so he'll machine gun call me until I answer. And if I unplug the phone instead of answering it, I can expect a huge pile of messages from him. The first five or six are usually: "Answer the phone... why won't you answer... I need to talk to you... right now... it's important." The rotten basterd.
Dunno whats wrong with private number my phone has one. But literally every time I get Unknown caller it is soliciter or doesn't say anything.
which is really fucking obnoxious when they ordered something to be delivered, but refuse to answer their door or phone...
Yeah, almost always. Who knows what kind of adventure could be on the other end. And old friend trying to run a con, an old flame wanting to hook up, someone challenging me to a duel. The possibilities are endless.
and yes, it's usually a salesperson or a wrong number. i still think it takes less time to answer the phone, find out what's up, and deal with it, than it does to listen to the phone ring for however long, then sit there wondering, and then listen to it ring again, and then continue to wonder, and so on.
Not really if you program the phone to only ring twice before going over to messages, and set caller ID to audible (so you know who's calling) it’s not that much of an inconvenience or irritation Hotwater
My wife has unpaid student loans, and we get repeated calls from certain bill collection agencies. She hides from them by turning off the ringer, and turning down the volume on the answering machine. That tends to irritate me, because I'm interested in who might be calling, so I periodically turn the volume back up and the ringer back on, especially if I think we might be expecting a call from one of our kids. They can always call my cel, anyway, but I like to make them feel loved as much as possible. But I'll answer any call, depending on my mood. If I know (and I can tell by looking at the display on the handset) that it's a bill collector, I'll answer it, wait for them to ask for her, pronounce her name wrong, and then I'll say,,"Oh,,is this about the free harmonica lessons?" I don't always wait for a response before I begin to play the blues. I've been playing harmonica for years, so they get a slice of good stuff, until I hear the "beep-beep-beep" on the phone, indicating that they've hung up. I've had people hang on the line, listening to my excellent blues for quite a while, many a time. It's good practice, and gives my lungs a good workout.
HELL no. We've had the same number for years and we hate that fact. We're nice folks who are usually willing to lend a hand, and while we'd love to get a ring from many old friends, there are still people calling us to ask favors despite never answering when we need one. People who haven't seen us for years, but still feel like they have the right to ask us to find them some kind of substance or another that we don't even mess with. If we don't have their number, it's probably for a reason. Anybody else can leave a message.
I always try and answer my phone. Even if it's a prank call from one of your drunk friends or something why wouldn't you want to hear it for a laugh and try and figure out who it is? Fun shit.
I rarely answer the phone for numbers I do not recognize. If they call repeatedly (like over days or weeks; not just in a single night); I may reverse-lookup the number to see if I can find out who is trying to sell me stuff (I don't have any bills overdue so it isn't collectors). Often it is easy to find out. For example, 614-465-1676 has been calling about twice a day for weeks now. Never rings long enought for the answering to kick in. The Caller ID has "GCS". I just went to http://whocalled.us/ and type in the number - and find that other folks have reported it as "Insurance Services" selling ... insurance! So, I was right there has been no need to answer!
I Registered My Number On The "Do Not Call" Site Back On 28-1-11. All I Can Say Is "Silence Is Golden", If Your Country Has A Similar Service Available My Advice Is Register Both Home And Cell.... Cheers Glen.
I am also registered there (they even recently sent me a letter and newsletter). So... I suppose that means that while I presumably get much less volume of unsolicited calls; it isn't "silence" unfortunately.
