Kinda makes me mad. People do it in a completely developed country and talk about how primitive and bad it is. They know nothing of the health benefits! It's giving barefooting a negative image and I don't like it. "Este ca ca!" We should do a counter protest, or at least that's what i do at my school :afro:
your teacher could lose his job if someone reported seeing that in your signature you know but you go to highschool barefoot? wicked cool that they let you
I LOVE the day without shoes. Finally, I can go without them in the buildings without getting screamed at. Outside no one cares, but if you bring them toes inside, someone's bound to make trouble. I don't know if it really is so much to badmouth barefooting as it is that they honestly don't have the choice whether or not to do it. Like when it's really cold out, you pretty much have to put something on your feet. Just a fact. But these people don't even have that. I know what you mean, though. It really does make you roll your eyes and go "yes, being barefoot is turrible. my poor poor feet, whatever shall they do." :frown:
Well they don't exactly let us :2thumbsup: I know that they're trying to get the point across that some people have no choice but to go barefoot, which in their situations can be bad, but the people that normally participate just think "wow, this is icky! i don't know why they don't have shoes!" and yeah...
Those people are n00bs. Most of my friends think it's cool. Maybe we're more free-spirited at my school...
One way of counter-acting that TOMS campaign would be to start the "Barefoot for Earth Day" campaign to show that barefooting shrinks your personal carbon footprint - you just don't need to buy shoes which are produced often in low-wage countries under less than fair circumstances, sometimes involving children's labor, too, and which have to be transported all over the world, consuming energy and producing CO2. Leather for low-price shoes is often produced in poor regions of the world, like the province of Ambur, India, where tanneries have polluted almost all fresh water supplies and diseases like anthrax from the raw animal hides are spread among the people. Instead of giving away shoes to the poor, it's better, IMO, to raise an awareness of shoes sold in the "rich" countries actually make people sick and suffer in the poor countries. Furthermore, on a spiritual note (the approach most people might define as "wacky", but which is quite valid to me), a barefoot step on the Earth is a silent, peaceful and tender one, since barefooters don't hurt the Earth by stomping on Her skin with boots. (An idea for such a campagin to counter the TOMS is currently discussed on the SBL mailing list, too). Wiggling bare toes, celebrating "My 365 days without shoes" (ideally, if it isn't too cold), ~*Ganesha*~
It is noble to offer shoes to those that want them, but do not have them. It is less than noble to hastle someone who might have shoes, but chooses not to wear them.
Ganesha, I love that idea! I may have to do that this year :2thumbsup: My sig was a quote from my teacher saying that you can hide your pipe in a highlighter I changed it now though This is now one of my favorite quotes, maybe i should put this in my sig
Not everyone can be so hardcore as to wander around barefoot in ice and snow. <<<*is a pansy in the cold*
