My brother has lived in several different places with several different setups and every time, without fail, all his furuniture ends up diagonally in a corner rather than flat against a wall.. It drives me up the freaking wall. I understand that in some situations it is beneficial to have something set up like that, but not every situation. It's such a waste of space and I think is borderline unhealthy.
it depends on the set up. my dad HATES when furniture sicks out into a room. cornered furniture actually can afford some storage space in some situations. and sometimes you have recliners and things that have to be at an angle (i am not a fan of recliners, i like a footstool and a regular rocking chair) but some people are drawn to certain shapes as well, so maybe that has something to do with it.
yeah, you can hide some stuff behind a chair or something.. I used to hate my mom would have our kids beds in the middle the room. best is up against the wall.. How the fuck you gona have your racetrack on the whole floor when 1/2 the room is a fucking bed! Oh that shit still pisses me off..
i think its awkward and that something will pop up and grab me in the dark while walking a movie or something..
I don't like empty space behind me, it weirds me out. I also don't like beds with space on both sides, the head of my bed towards the door, or having someone sit right behind me while riding the bus through Chinatown.
Well, I don't like it very much period, but someone sitting right behind me through Chinatown makes me especially uncomfortable. I've had a few bad experiences on the bus in Chinatown. I also don't like someone walking too close behind me downtown, that can be hard to avoid.
if it makes you feel any better i have my couch and furniture against walls flat...only the coffee table and computer chair are not...you lose walking space when it juts into the room..and i hate stubbing my toe on furniture
why didnt you just move the bed? would you get in trouble? I guess I am lucky that my mother didn't care that I've been rearranging the furniture since I was like 8. Over the course of my childhood, I've had the furniture in my two different bedrooms arranged in every imaginable configuration. (my mom's house is surprisingly very versatile.) It's amazing that my 75 pound ass didn't drop the 100+ pound dresser/bookshelf combo thing on my ass and hurt myself.
i was moving the top secton of a cabinet by myself, and had to think fast because my back started to go out. it was scary for a few minutes there while i was trying to decide which way to move. my couch is diagonal right now, with a bookcase and some trunks behind it. the kiddo likes to play back there, and the couch helps block the winter draft from the sliding door.
I like to corner my tv, usually because its easier to see from all angles of my living room. I never corner couches and stuff...that takes up way too much space in my opinion
we would move the beds when we got older, I had a brother and we had to share a room til right about my teen yrs, and my brother went to my grandmas down the street. Funny feeling now its like my bedroom when I was a kid. Same dressers, set up sort of and this was one my families homes but i didnt always live here.
CRT tvs do fit better in corners, the issue with that is finding furniture to fit in the corner properly. next time we get a tv it will be flat, so that will change all my floorplans, lol!
