High everyone ! Im seeking information about the effects of smoking marijuana when you are epileptic. I have googled info about it, but im looking for something specific that i cant find. See my father is epileptic due to an accident he had as an adolescent and developed scar tissue on his brain. I have read stories from other people with epilepsy and they say that marijuana helps them tremendously.

There's alot that comes with being epileptic. Side effects etc; And marijuana has actually had people cut down on taking their medicine. ( which happens to be very expensive ). It also has given them an appetite and causes their brain to be less 'excitable" which is one of the main triggers for a seizure. I had my father read these stories I have found and he couldn't believe it. He is now interested in the medicinal purposes of it. The only thing is...You are either born with epilepsy or something happens to you to obtain it. My father and I were wondering if he smokes, will it effect his scar tissue?

It seems to me that their hasn't been many studies of this. Unless i'm just looking in all the wrong places.

Im hoping someone can help us out ! :)

One of my best friends has epilepsy, and her neurologist strictly told her to avoid marijuana, she didn't. She started having auras (or w/e you call them) again. I don't have any type of data to show like a correlation or anything, so it could just be a coincidence. But, meh. If you've got something wrong going on, don't mess with it until you speak with a medical professional.

Everything I found after a quick Google search says marijuana is a good for treating epilepsy, but I'm guessing that can vary from case to case. There's really only one way to find out if it would work for your father.

Thank you guys ! I suggested my dad speak with a medicinal marijuana practitioner ( i guess you would say ) and see what they had to say about it. I think it varies depending on the case as well.

If you have epilepsy and smoke , i believe the THC count needs to be real low.
