Okay let's start this off with: Avatar. This was a pretty bad movie, which dazzled you with computer graphics so you wouldn't notice the generic plot. Beautiful, yes, but it won't hold up ten years when a bigger and better 26th film based on pocahontas comes out and people will forget about it completely. The characters seemed like they came out of a 'filmmaker's guidebook to creating characters'. 2001: A Space odyssey. The slow, boring space scenes where nothing is happening but the director thinks because it's in space we're going to be so amazed that we will just be happy sitting watching nothing much happening in it. Only Kubrick would be so arrogant to think he's so good that he can put in such long and drawn-out scenes and we'll lap it up. And he was right! A Clockwork Orange. Fantastic book, not so the movie. The great thing about the book was it wasn't just characters doing stuff, you got to see inside their head. Here in the film it's just stuff happening, nothing there to relate to or grasp at, since the characters appear so unlikeable. Before sunset: Before sunrise was amazing. I had mixed opinions when watching Sunset. But I think i've decided it's bad. Okay, I get that it is meant to be that they are older and wiser, and it's different because of that. But they're ugly and I don't like them at all. It ruins the romance of the first film. There are some charming moments but I'm not really convinced it should have been made. Maybe I should watch it again. No Country For Old Men. A bunch of stuff happens. That's the movie. There's no point to it all, really. None of the characters have the slightest trace of likeability, and I was glad to get away from them at the end of the movie. Now apparently this has "deep and meaningful(tm)" messages, but I believe that's just because some overrated novel writer wrote it and overrated directors directed it, giving us the impression it must be a "deep and meaningful(tm)" film. Terminator. Dude goes around killing stuff. Yawn. Next Matrix. Dudes go around not doing much stuff at all except slow motion dancing. Next Pulp Fiction. Oh, I get it. These guys are 'cool' so we're meant to be interested in what they are doing, because they do cool stuff, like snorting cocaine and shooting things which means it's cool to like it because other people do. You can include all Tarantino's other flicks in the same category, they all pretty much suck. Forrest Gump. Contrived to the point of absurdity. What sort of audience actually digs this stuff? A guy with some problems goes through a bunch of sad and touching stuff in order that we can relate to him, in order to sell us tickets to go and see it. It is far too sentimental and feels manufactured by a factory to tear the heartstrings, rather than telling a touching story. North By Northwest: Okay, it's well done. But it's pointless. A whole lot of set pieces with no aim than to demonstrate how well the filmmakers can do set pieces. Rear Window: Person 1: "Okay, how much can we annoy the audience as much as possible?" Person 2: "I've got it! A guy with an annoying nasal voice stuck in a stuffy apartment watching stuff happen outside" Person 1: "Fantastic! I'll get right on it." Batman: The Dark Knight. Let's make a dark city with baddies and goodies and let's make the baddies do bad stuff and the goodies do good stuff. Then we'll throw some 'profound' stuff in at the end to make people think it's not just a glorified action flick. Yeah.
Holy shit, you're missing a lot in most of these movies. I only feel like you're hit it on the head with The dark night, A Clockwork orange and Avatar. Never heard of North by northwest, Rear window and Before sunset.
I love you for having Avatar, A Clockwork Orange (book is awesome though), No Country for Old Men, and Terminator; I don't agree with many though -- and your examples are absolutely terrible -- it leads one to believe you may simply not get the movies. But let me try: Slumdog Millionaire - I have nothing good to say about this mess aside from cinematography. The music often clashed with the scene, the storyline was not very interesting and stereotypical, the non-linear plot style seemed to be simply to distract people from that, and was one of the only sources of tension in the movie The Blind Side - real life story turned into archetype characters, including the stereotypical 'good negro', with a lame, predictable, and boringly executed plot Transformers - the characters were silly and one-dimensional, the stuff with the military was awkwardly thrown in, and the action scenes were made up of too many shots, barely comprehensible flashes of punches and sparks and shit
I want to contribute to your list: Jackass the Movie-Stupid, mindless, mean-spirited, and simply NOT funny! The Mummy-Cliched characters; cliched plot; and cliched CGI. Batman Begins- Slow-paced, dull, and melodramatic. Plus, the fighting choreography was horrible! Shrek- I was not fond of the use of pop culture references and predictable humor. The former seemed really out of place, even though there have been some movies who have done it right. And damn, that donkey is so annoying that I wanted to reach into the movie and strangle him! Free Willy-Typical boy-meets-animal story. Next. Cars- Has an interesting concept that is not executed well.
Twilight, it sucked. It's for teenage girls to freak out over supposedly good looking people, yet they are as cookie-cutter as possible. Ken dolls anyone? Shiny, sparkley vampires? Come on...The story was cliche. Don't know why everyone thought this was so cutting edge. Forbidden, dangerous love? *yawn*
Hahaha! Tell me why Steve-o got a tattoo of his own face on himself? Let's throw stuff on our balls and film it...Um, they made youtube for a reason.
Okay I got rid of Saving Private Ryan because only really watched bits of it. I'll try sitting down again with it. Good list, though I wouldn't say Jackass: The Movie or The Mummy are movies that everyone would say they liked. I liked Shrek and Free Willy. Er...never heard of Rear Window and North by Northwest? Have you even heard of Alfred Hitchcock? We need more lists!
pulp fiction - it didn't have a point! i mean, what is the story all about? two guys work for a don and they go killing people and one of them goes out on a date with the don's bi$^^y drug addicted wife. wtf! i really don't get it why people are so excited about this film. kill bill - another horrible film from tarantino. austin powers - the whole series was awful and yucky. you get more angry at the hero rather than supporting him. Mr. Bean - i can't stand the stupidity of that man. what's so funny about a super-idiot? transformers - a bunch of shape-shifting robots, a confused guy and a hot girl...yeah, just the perfect mix for a crappy movie. Nutty Professor - yuck! Kick Ass- boring.. new moon - you say twilight is bad, you've seen nothing yet. the fast and the furious series - the king of all bad movies.
Fuck you guys dissin on jackass. Pulp fiction is amazing movie just like all quintin terentinos. It was overhyped tho I did notice that. Matrix is awesome classic too. Ok MY list I will try come up with. Donnie darko was kinda cool but overhyped titanic was alright but not really my kinda movie Star Wars! that shit bores me which brings up lord of the rings! was cool seeing the first movie when I was 10 but after that... Uhh yeah done. sideways
jackass did suck tho...their series was better than their movies...the movies were just disgusting lol i think dumb and dumber was way over rated as a best seller
Oh, yeah. I should've typed Dumb and Dumber, as well its sequel. I was never into Jim Carrey or his movies, so you might as well ignore what I say.
