Ok, So I only just joined these forums and I already have a few questions for you guys :3 Ok here goes... I've always loved dreads but have never really had the balls to get them myself, until now. I am seriously thinking about getting them, but am still worried in a few areas. Also I have researched Dreads a lot, I'm just here to get the opinions of a few people with experience. :3 1) My hair is very thin (my hair dresser said it was the thinest hair he had ever seen) I have read online that all types of hair can get dreads, but not how different hair effects the outcome. I'm a white 18 year old and approx 6"1' and I would like fairly thick locks. With my thin hair would this be fine or cause problems? 2) I plan to use the back combing method to dread my hair. My hair is round my shoulders right now, any idea how much they would shrink? And last but not least, this is pure matter of opinion. Do you think I would suit dreads? Please no flamers xD just your honest opinion and maybe a reason or two why yes/no. (They were taken at my shitty workplace, no need to comment on the crapshack I'm in haha) http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/xnz_godx/hair/IMG_0075.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/xnz_godx/hair/IMG_0076.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/xnz_godx/hair/IMG_0079.jpg All info is welcome :3 Thanks guys. Don't worry about hair type. If you backcomb fairly well you'll probably lose a third of the length. Use bigger sections for thick dreads (2 inches square would make a fairly fat dreadlock). Don't be tempted to rebackcomb when they start coming out, just aim to get good at forgetting about your hair.
#1. for one, it might not be your hair. commercial shampoos and products deposit shit on your hair that changes the look and feel of it. i have thin-ish hair, but when i use a residue removing shampoo it's super full and every hair feels thicker. your hair type will determine how your dreads bind up to an extent. for example, you won't have dreads like a black person, and you won't have dreads like someone with crazy curly hair would. but it will still dread just fine, it just needs time and/or encouragement if you choose to do so. #2. in the FAQ on the stickies to this i think it covers shrinkage. dreads will shrink and lengthen throughout the entire time you have them. one month they'll be short and fat, two months later they'll be long all of a sudden it's wild. #3. everyone looks good with dreads. you'll look fine.
I would rep you but it says I have to spread the love first. Have an e-hug. Also this post should be the FAQ. Not in it, just be it. XD
Thanks for the info guys :3. Still just looking for more opinions for if you guys think they would look good on me haha. Honest opinions.
get them. it's my honest opinion that everyone looks good with dreads. the only way they could possibly look bad is if you started them in some freaky deaky chemical way or if you never washed your hair. THEN you'd look like absolute shit. but i don't think that's going to happen, so just do it.
I have really thin hair and my dreads are fine. I did 1 inch squares and they're a bit thick but not really thick...if that makes sense. Your hair will effect how they come out, but not in a bad way. Different hair knots differently. Your hair will shrink a few inches both after backcombing and as they mature. How much is hard to say. As someone said, dreads do crazy things. It's not the same for everyone. As for if you would look good, I think so. It's true though, everyone looks good with dreads. Just remember they take a bit to mature. About a year for most people. *hugs* Jess
Yeah, dreads look good on everybody. Be prepared though, your hair's kind of short for backcombing. It's gonna be quite a bit shorter when you're done, and you'll be a sideshow bob for a while.
Don't like the sound of that haha. Oh well, thanks for the info guys :3. I'll just get 'em and wear my beanie all the time.:2thumbsup:
