I've only been in Florida in two different areas: Tampa in September 2009 and the Orlando International Airport (MCO) three times in August, stopping or changing planes with Southwest Airlines. I didn't have any hurricane threats, but was stuck in Orlando on the first visit due to a thunderstorm.

I remember Charlie quite well. My apartment was fortunate enough to maintain its power during the storm, and it withstood the storm's winds, but I still was terrified, especially when I heard the gusts scream outside. My friend's house on Conway, on the other hand, was badly damaged and he eventually had to move out. When I visited his house, the ceiling in his room had split in two and the carpet was covered in fiberglass. All of this occured just from a leak. Let me tell you, the smell of wet fiberglass is sickening! After a while, the other leaks were causing mold to grow, so he and his family had to move away. My friend was saddened by the experience, since it was his childhood home. Poor dude.

Yeah that storm was wild. I lived near Orlando at the time, and we got it pretty bad. Trees went down everywhere, streets were flooded, power lines down. ... awesome hurricane party followed :)
