I think that she is. I sit back and usually smile when I hear critics pan her or those who say she will simply disappear. It reminds me of when Madonna first came on the scene and it was being said about her for exactly the same reasons. No talent, flash in the pan, extreme and all the other negatives that are thrown about are rather a flashback of what was said then. I have a feeling Lady Gaga is here to stay.
No. Not that Madonna had that much substance-Lady Gaga has even less. Yes shes got the dresses, the look, the cutting edge. But there is nothing there. It's almost like she's being handled 100% by marketers-almost like a boy band.
I don't know, everything I've read about her gives me the impression that she's created the image. She invented her look and figured out how to market it. Her music seems really empty to me but I also get the impression that she knows what she shes doing in that department as well. I read that she used to write music on the piano, norah jones-esque or something, but found her own music too sappy. She wanted to start writing music that she herself would enjoy and dance to in a club so she started writing pop music.
I never really gave a rats-ass about Madonna but I think GaGa is cool. She's got her shtick of being outrageous and her music is whatever it is. She a package kinda thing as I see it. Some Music, some outrage, some theater and some social voice. Hell that works for me .
Lady Gaga is this generation's Lady Gaga. Madonna basically revolutionized women's place in not only entertainment, but also in society, as a whole. Lady Gaga is just making music and being loony, but even though her music licks donkey balls, she gets uber respect from me for doing her own thing.
Fulfilling society's need to put a talentless prostitute on a pedestal. EDIT: In hindsight, that seems much more bitter than I meant it to be. I just hate how rather than just making music that can stand on its own we need to have it branded and advertised to us. Lady Gaga embodies everything I dislike about "image management".
They come and they go. I'm sure there's a little 10 year old girl somewhere that'll be the next whatever in 2020. And then one after that one, ect.
madonna had a few catchy songs, and she was attractive when she was younger. i really didn't want to reply to this because i'm over 25 and it irks me when someone tries to tell me which threads i may or may not post in.
If you mean by that, objectified and demeaned, then I agree... Gaga is def hotter than madonna, IMHO ZW
Well...I like Madonna a whole lot more than I like Lady Gaga...but I can see where someone would make such a comparison. Also, I posted in this thread because I'm 24 and I do what I want, dammit.
when a reporter asked Bob Dylan if [somebody] was this generation's Dylan, Bob Dylan said: "i'm this generation's Bob Dylan." it is good to be yourself......
Madonna made it alright for women to be open about their sexuality, in the same way men are open about their's, and I think that's important. If you disagree, that's fine.
Before Madonna, and even still today, many women were/are scared to be so openly sexual, afraid it would make them look like sluts or something. It's acceptable, and even encouraged, for men to be openly promiscuous and sexually expressive, while women are looked down upon for doing the exact same thing. Lots of people demonized Madonna for being so openly sexual, but other people took a second-look and realized there's really nothing wrong with it.
